I have a 250 Inline in my 1970 Stepside. It has a one barrel carb. When I give it gas it will cut out for a second and then accelerate. I have also heard a small backfire once or twice when it does this also....Any solutions for this? Thanks for any help....

Sounds like the accelerator pump in the carb is worn out. That's usually the reason for the delay. Never had one backfire because of that, I would guess you have an ignition problem also.

Like Fred said, problably the main problem is accelerator pump. Rebuild kits are cheap and they are a very simple carb. Heck, I did one and it worked afterwords too!!! I'd also add that you may have a timing issue, but I would strighten out the carb first then, tune/time it good.

About a month ago I had started it after it had sit awhile...When it fired up it ran bad and fuel was pouring out of the carb to the ground....I just shut it down and tapped on the carb a few times with a small hammer and it was fixed....Now it does the sputter and go thing....I will try the carb rebuild...Thanks...Brad
