Fuel Gauge Problem
70 Longhorn,Fuel gauge stays on empty.If I disconnect the lead to the sending unit the gauge will peg on full.The truck came with aux.tank but has been removed.Bad sending unit? or connection problem?

Nope, the guage is doin what it is supposed to be doin. You either need a new float on the sending unit, or a new sending unit.

If memory serves me right when you disconnect the lead to the sending unit the gauge should read full. If you ground the lead the gauge should read empty.
If I were to guess I would say that your float on your sending unit has a hole in it allowing it to fill with gas and causing it to always stay on the bottom of the tank, so your gauge reads empty. I've had this problem on two of my trucks. It's an easy fix.

Als454 and Longhorn Man are correct, the fuel gauge is working correctly. You've either got a float with a hole or a bad sending unit. The sending unit can be checked with an ohmeter after removal from the tank. When the tank is full the resistance of the sender should be about 90 ohms and when it's empty it should read close to 0 ohms. If the float has a hole in it either replace it or solder it shut if it's brass.
