Arrow Need help identifying fuel sending unit

This is the old sending unit I pulled tonight from my dad's 70'. I bought a new one last year and installed it tonight but the metal line coming out of the top of the new unit is a little larger in diameter, comes out of the top where I'm pointing and the nut is bigger (3/4" compared to 9/16") and also longer. The new box is marked 67-71 8 cylinder. Could my original unit have been for a 6 cylinder?. If anybody knows the differences in sending units, I would appreciate any help!. Thanks

It's very possible that your original sender was for a 6 cylinder. The 6 cylinder fuel sender lines are smaller than the V8 lines. Is the truck an original V8?

I don't know if it was originally a 6 cylinder truck but if you are sure about the size it probably was!. DAMN!. Is there any way to make this work?. Maybe I can buy some steel tubing and work from the sending unit back to the fuel pump with this new size line?. I guess it would be easier to buy the 6 cylinder unit,huh?

Other differences in senders I6 vs V8

Is there any other difference beside the tube size? My truck had a V8 in it when I bought it.It was a 292 I-6.The reason I ask is because it's hard to start if it sits awhile(2-3 days). I was wondering if the pickup tube might be higher or lower on a V8?

longhorn71, my vin on my truck starts with CE and I have the same sending unit as pictured. I think I might go to the junkyard and see if I can get this piece of line from the same setup, otherwise I might bend a piece of tubing and find a fitting to work.

Some trucks with the smaller v8's also used the smaller fuel lines. 70, you should be able to buy an adaptor, that reduces from one line size to another. The style of fitting used is SAE double flare, and fittings are available at all parts stores. The use of an adaptor should get your truck going, but the best solution would be to buy steel line, and bend up a new line (it's easier than you might think).

Jim, If your V8 had a 2bl on it originally it also took the 5/16 line and the 4 bl carbs took the 3/8 line.

Thanks Bill. Wes, the problem with the reducer idea is the two ends don't line up due to the new sending unit's tube location. It comes out of the top about 1/2" higher and can't be bent or I will damage the unit.
