The Dash Area

I've noticed that the metal part of the dash is different, like a matt finish or something.
Am I seeing things or where they painted with something to keep the reflections down?
Just curious...

Are you talking the very top, between the windshield and the dash pad?
If so, then yes, you are right...it is done to keep the reflections down.

Yes, that's exactly where I'm talking about.
What is it? A different paint or just a matt spray over?
I would guess a "true" restoration would have this area duplicated?
