Detonation

I thought I heard detonation pinging at about 4000 rpm but I can only hear it with the window open. And after hearing it a few times I think it might be just something rattleing(exhuast or something). I can not hear it with window up?

Thanks for any reply

valves? If its hot and your city driving, your valves might ping from loose / funky timing, poor gasoline, or just a high ambient temp. Just throwin something out.

I ran into several detonation problems on my 75. I ws running the stock very restrictive air cleaner that had no snorkle. I flipped the lid to remove the restriction and improvement but still sucking hot under hood air and still getting detonation when pull steep grades at hwy speeds. Funny thing is even in 75 there knockout existed for a snorkle. Go figure. So I slapped a stock 85 air cleaner on with snorkle. Problem much better.

I later found that the wrong down shift cable was installed for my TH 350 and it was locking out the 4bbl.

Over the summer, back in July i think, i went to the dealership and got the fresh air duct (that is the official name), as mine had been missing. A lot of people say its not a crucial piece of the puzzle, but if it came with one it was designed to run with it, therefore you need it It definately made a difference.
