starter question
I put a new battery cable on today, I put it on the big bolt in middle of starter.
On each side are two small posts what do they do? The only reason I ask is the battery cable is resting againest one of the post starts fine will that have any ill effects? I think the metal part of the cable is touching it. I really dont want to mess with it any more if I dont have to headers make it a tight fit. Thanks

one of those posts is the from the ignition switch basically. Its the start terminal and if the bat. cable was making contact with it, it would just start all the time. The other is usually a run terminal and is energized when the ign is on. Either way it would be best if the battery cable only touched what it is supposed to in my opinion.

It is touching the one with no other wires on it so it must be the run terminal. If this is correct then it will not do any harm right? I will try to move it out of the way anyway.

I think I got it I used a zip tie to hold it away from the terminal.

You may want to slide some heat wrap on that cable if it's anywhere near the headers...just a thought. It's usually a tight fit with headers!

I got about 1 inch I think it will be ok plus the headers are coated helps with the heat.

Sounds like you got it covered. Just my own paranoia...while on a family vacation outside of Seward, AK many moons ago, we had a battery cable short out an burn (on a borrowd truck) because it touched the exhaust manifold. Luckily, the truck didn't burn, just the cable, but it left us stranded (un-fun). I've been extra careful with positive battery cables ever since! (No, I didn't put it in! )
