Alternator Wiring

The wiring under the hood of my newly acquired 72 C-10 looks like it has been ripped out and then rewired by a drunk monkey (or the PO). The alternator is hot wired straight to the battery and is not fused. Shouldn't the hot wire from the alternator run to a junction box and then to the battery via a fuseable link? If so, this box is missing on my truck. Where is it located and does anyone know where I can get another one? Thanks.
