miss in number 7

i am new to this site and i am needing some help i just got back from Iraq about 2 weeks ago and my 1996 chevy truck with a 305 vortec has a miss in #7 i have had the check engine light coming on so i had it scaned i put new plugs, wires, cap and rotor on it i have 120 psi of compression in #7 the rest are about the same too the plug comes out with a lot of carbon built up on it it smothes out a little bit at a hirer rpm but on the low side it is very bad any help would be great

If it is a constant miss on number seven it is possibly the holograph in the distributor that is bad or crankshaft position sensor. If it only does it when it is cold, it is more than likely going to be the coolant temp. sensor in the front of the intake. Hope this may help you out.

Also very possibly could be a bad injector. Best way to tell is have an injector balance test done at a dealership or qualified shop.

not to highjack your thread,

but I am having the same problem but on cyl 1 and 3. its very intermintant. have ruled out the ignition system, and think its the injectors, but what if it only does it when its warm? could it still be the temp sendor? and whats that injector balance test run $ wise?? oh, and is the holograph and crank sensor test-able??

That was a misprint on my part about the coolant temp sensor. If the engine runs bad AFTER warmup then the coolant temp sensor could be bad. Sorry about the misprint.
