73 steering box
I didn't want to hijack a thread,so here is my question.
I had a 69 Chevy 1/2 ton,and replaced the manual steering box with a newer model,but it seems that I had to remove one of the bumper brackets,and notch it out to make it work.Are the later model trucks different? So what is the advantage,if any,of using the newer box? I have the original box on my 71 and it drives like a dream,I can even spin the wheel with one finger (not recommended). Just wondering

The bumper bracket was for a non-power steering truck. Box is basically the same or is the same as the original part. I had to trim my bracket too when I converted my 67 to power and also on a 69 of my buddy's. My 71 is factory power steering and the bracket is made differently.

The advantage of the 73-87 boxes is they are 3½ turns lock to lock vs 72 and earlier 4½ turns.

i don't want to hijack but it does apply to this thread. how do you have to modify the bumper bracket to make it compatable with the power steering box? pictures would be helpfull.
