An evening with my 350 Vortec

well tonight I started building my engine, after a few weeks of parts chasing, waiting on finances, and endless cleaning, I got it short blocked, (still have to wait to buy the heads, 550@the local dealership) but all went together fine, I cant wait to get this engine on the road, I'm still looking for a muncie trans tho,
I found out Greased Lightning, works great on cleaning the block inside and out, and dawn power disolver works excellent on pistons and aluminum, lol hardly any scrubbing required, needless to say, things are looking good, to be up and running sometime in Nov, after the enigine and trans, i'll start on the suspension, and brakes, which should be alot of fun,

It is as far as i know a 98 vortec 350 out of a truck, i bought at a wrecking yard here in Tulsa, I paid 375 long blocked, but found both heads cracked, during tear down, but all else looked good, but decided to re-ring it, since i had it torn down that far,

I would strongly recomend you turn the crank if it is standard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gm uses 1/2 size bearing that can't be bought aftermarket that is where the cold knock comes from in almost all the late model 5.7's!

Last I heard, you could still buy .001" undersize bearings, & using one of those inserts with a standard insert is how GM got the .0005"-under bearings.
