I got powerslot rotors (BTW 1/2 suburban 2wd rotors will work with 1/2 ton 2wd HD brakes perfectly) New ceramic disc brake pads, turned the drums, and put in new shoes. The truck now barely stops. I didn't mess with the fluid at all. WTH? It doesn't stop and the parking brake doesn't work either! What is wrong? I need to drive the truck tomorrow!!!

I can't comment on why your parking brake doesn't work, but your lack of stopping power could be from those ceramic pads. They sound like those expensive ones that take a lot of heat before they grip well. Did you check out the heat range for those pads when you bought them? Did they say that they were good for everyday driving or anything? It could be like the EBC product line of Green, Yellow and Red. Everyday, good for racing/soso for daily, poor for daily but excellent for racing. You might just not be getting enough heat to them to work properly.

You need to read this info on -Bedding in new pads and rotors It makes a huge difference in how your brakes will perform....

They are the ceramic pads from Raybestos - so nothing that special. Maybe the rear drums aren't self adjusting and the combination valve won't let the disc engauge all the way??

sounds to me like there is something wrong with the rear shoes causing this problem because of th emergency brake not working.
Perhaps the e-brake cable is hung up.
Also did you open the master cylinder reservoir?
Might it have too much fluid in it causing pressure from compressing the wheel cylinders and caliper pistons?

The self adjusting drums were not self adjusting causing the shoes to not contact the drum - the combination valve prevented the disc from engaging before the drums. I fixed it this morning. I'm going to have to fix the drums though. Drum brake are the scourge of all evil. The brakes get stronger and stronger as I drive it. Now all I have to do is put on the stainless steel brake lines and flush the fluid (I look at the master cylinder and the fluid is almost black and has flakes in it - yuck!

Tyler,
Even though you have self-adjusters on your drums, you still need to adjust them when you put on new shoes.
There should be a rubber plug on the back of the backing plate adjacent to the "star" of the self adjusters.
Remove the plug so you can get a screwdriver in to turn the star.
With the wheel in the air (on jack stands with wheels chocked) and truck in neutral, turn the wheel and adjust (turn) the star till the shoes start to rub. Repeat on the other side.
They will never come up to full pedal unless you do this.

Some of the teeth on the star ajusters on both sides were broken. The parking brake support springs on both sides also broke. I fixed them for now (glue!) But I'm going to get new ones.

i usually adjust the shoes out till the drum barly rattles on the drum as im putting it on/ and then i would adjust the emergency brake underneath i would bleed the brakes 2

Back up & hit the brakes hard a few times will usually set the rear adjusters. Easy thing to try too...corn
