Cruise control
Anyone have a recommendation on an aftermarket cruise set-up for our trucks?

Sorry for not responding. I put one in a 75 like 10 years ago. It installed well, worked well but had a fugly control panel. I got it from JC Whitney. That's about all I recall. Oh, I think it worked off of engine vacume instead of magnets for speed control.
Edit: I found a post by 69 1/2 six pack bee. He had posted a pic and had an aftermarket cruise control mounted to his turn signal switch. Maybe you could pm him.

I have an Equus, but they don't make them any more. If you don't have a lockup converter, get one that uses a speed sensor on the driveshaft. If you use ignition pulses as a speed sensor, it will hunt around due to converter slippage.

Dakota Digital makes one that doesn't operate off of engine vaccuum. A little pricey though. Good luck and keep on truckin'......Jerry

I have an Audiovox cruise control I bought from JC Whitney for less than $100 on sale.
I mounted the not-so-pretty controller knee-knocker style below and to the right of my steering column. The Audiovox unit has several ways you can program it to sense speed. When I installed it my truck had a manual transmission. With a manual you can use a tach signal because there is no slippage when the clutch is engaged. However I was planning to and did swap to a th350 so I put the magnet from the kit on the driveshaft which gives the cc a speed to keep constant. One of the best upgrades I have done to my truck.

Try Rostra. Very versatile and work really well. I believe they used to be called Hayes Dana but changed their name.

you could always just put a brick on the gas pedal? right? j/k but that would be a great upgrade for any old truck.

rostra and audiovox are one in the same! I sell them and have installed them on several newer cars but I always use the elctronic type which needs the vehicle speed sense. I was displeased with the last one I did but it wasn't the cruise's fault it was the gutless S10 w/4cyl standard shift trans. They can be a pain to install but I have never had to warranty one after it was installed!!!!!!!!!!!
