cheap engine cooker
If you need heads or a block cooked or steel wheels stripped of paint take a 55 gallon steel drum and cut it right above the first rib and put it on blocks so you can put charcoal under it . fill it with water and your parts. let the water boil and then add 2 cans of cristal driano or lye. Let cook overnight then pull it out and let it cool for about 3 hours, take it to the carwash and rince it. This way it only costs about $10. bucks. Saves you machine shop cost to clean. Been doing it for years.

I forgot to menton !!!!!!!!!!!!!no aluminum parts unless you want them black as coal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Now you can put an old engine bracket in it for an agaitior . try it and you will see how it rolls the water. I saw this idea on tv for small parts in a bucket with warm water and figured if it worked with warm why not hot?

This is basically the hot vat that we had at the NAPA. The powder we put into the "soup" was caustic as hell. Just make sure its covered up good, b/c the vapors will peel paint. Literally. We forgot to put the lid down one afternoon and the next day all of the paint had peeled from the ceiling and walls. The owner wasn't too happy.
You can also do this with carb cleaner and use heating pads taped to the sides of the barrel. They won't boil the water/carb cleaner like the burner can, but they'll make it warm/hot. |

So how long will this liquid last? I mean can you do parts in it over and over,or is it just a one time thing?

Local engine shops use the Lye Caustic Isnt cheap niether If a person gets the right chemicals it dont have to be heated Althou it does help to use it regularly.

yes it does work over but i usually put one more can in as a booster but it does work that way. And when you have to empty it .its just like cleaning your drain out just dump it down the drain. After all its just grease in there.

you could weld a hose bib in the bottom that way it could drain easily
