Re: mylow53 build

Nice truck iv been watching your progress for some time now.

Question: In post number 240 you have a picture of the door an in it I see you have stainless inner window trim. I can not locate or find where to get this. All I have found steel but not polished stainless steel.

Those would be original. I got them from a buddy in the 80s for free. I don't know what they are worth now, but they are hard to find.

Re: mylow53 build

Is there a reason that the access door to the fuel filler is so far ahead?

Could it be moved closer to the back of the truck? I am sure there is a reason as I see it so often but getting fuel on that bed would upset me I am sure!

That is one beautiful bed floor and your use of the chrome fender welts is pure brilliance. I am so far from this but I do like the advance inspiration.

Someone may have asked this and I did not see the answer. Where did you get the mini-tubs? Looks like they are for more than looks after looking at your rear meats.

Keep up the awesome work.

Don't want to answer for mylow53, but my filler door is in the same spot as his and it's because that's were the filler neck is on the tank.

Re: mylow53 build

ill take some picts of the door but pretty much everything door related is stock. but these AD trucks are known for their bad doors. the seals were from brothers trucks. Any ideas on this would be very much appreciated

as far as the filler neck goes cal is right thats the way the tank is designed i would love it to be farther back but it would need to be re-welded in to position.

Could you post a pic of the way you did it. Also where did you get the seals from? I just did one door this weekend and my door shut fine, I bought them through LMC.

Re: mylow53 build

When I was at that stage on my 55 1st series, I have at least 5 samples of door weather strip for the doors, most look the same BUT the difference is in the make up of the rubber.
The one that won the bid was Steele Rubber for the consistency of there product and the way it fits.
Have you turned the gasket around so that the point that hits the cab is the sticking out the most, thinist piece of rubber. I had trouble adjusting the doors AFTER I had the gasket installed, had to start all over with the stricker. Do you have your gaps the way you want them?

Ask them to send you a sample of there door gaskets and you can compare them to yours. I did that with many of the folks I saw at the swap meets, you will see what I am saying.
That was the selling point for me and Steel Rubber, I did pay more for there product but I think they have a better product and worth the extra $$.
........ and I do not work for them !!!

SoffSeal sells a nice kit for these trucks. It's stick on with no glue required.

Re: mylow53 build

just to keep you guys up to speed i've plumed the main wires from the fuse panel thru the left front fender. i used the grommets that came with my vintage air to protect the wires from the metal. man what a bundle of wires. also I'm installing the vintage air system in the cab. i figured i would tackle the hardest part of the install first. i will get some picks of the work soon

Re: mylow53 build

I found out after I mounted my Vintage Air unit that it could have been mounted a few inches lower, because when I went to hook up the defroster hose I could have used a little more clearence, so keep a eye on your defrosters if you are using them. 2" makes a big difference when you are trying to stuff all those hoses under there!!
As for the wireing don't look at it as a lot of wires, just brake it down to ONE circuit at a time, they are all marked.....right!!
You will be cruising in no time, when you are driving your truck you wil forget about all of these issues you had!!
