Re: Header Solution

The bbc or sbc header will not work with stock transmssion crossmember. They both need aftermarket crossmembers.

Re: Header Solution

Steve, I just got the headers delivered tonight and wanted to say thanks for finding a solution to the header problems associated with lowered trucks. They look fantastic and I can't wait to get them installed.

Re: Header Solution

Steve, hello! I purchased the sbc stainless headers from you and received them about three weeks ago. Well I did have the wider top frame rails like you have seen on the '67's so I pulled the engine and trans and trimmed the frame rails. I installed the headers and installed the engine and trans with new headers back into the frame. It looks awesome. Thanks for all your help. Now I need to purchase a different starter and I can get the exhaust system made.

Re: Header Solution

tac106842, why are you getting a different starter? Do these not fit the factory starter?

Re: Header Solution

I have a mild built sbc406 running 10.3:1 compression and a good friend of mine told me to never run a sbc 400 up on a stock starter. He has built several of these and the stock starter usually ends up trashed in about 4 months. So I was planning on running a geared starter. I spoke with Steve (Joker69) and he said that he is running a Powermaster geared starter with these headers and he has a starter that you can rotated the electric motor to fit your application. Summit and Jegs has these starters in the standard bolt or staggered bolt pattern for around $245.00 and they put out 200ftlb of cranking torque. To answer your question I am not sure if the stock starter will fit or not, I know from installing these headers it is pretty tight where the starter goes and I am sure that there will be plenty of heat coming off these headers. You may want to ask Joker69 this question.

HUH???? Gm run stock starters without issues, my 406 runs a stock starter for going on 15 years now. For the first 3 years of running this 406 I had a gear reduction starter and had nothing but problems, put on a cast iron nose starter and all the issues went away. A 400 SBC will run just fine on a stock GM starter.

Re: Header Solution

Steve, I have placed a call into Dan's shop 3 times now and haven't heard back. Are they still in business? I'm looking for a set of BBC headers.

Thanks.

Re: Header Solution

Well it looks like there are 3 of us. If we can all pool together and get a couple more guys in for the BBC headers, perhaps we can score a group buy. I talked to Dan yesterday Joker, thank you.

Re: Header Solution

Depending on the price of the BBC headers, you can add me to your group buy. I would love a set for my 78 blazer.
