Did you make any changes to your motor when you rebuilt it?

Re: The GSFMech Build

Yeah sure did, I made a lot of changes. I wanted a little more thump even though it ran good before and was impossible to hook up. I was running L2465 Speed Pro pistons before and 781’s but they were stock except for a 3 angle valve job and had a lot milder cam. I machined the heads for 2.19 and 1.88 SS valves with the cut down stems, and machined them for PC seals and comp cams dual springs and did a real nice bowl porting and 3 angle seat job. Factory steel crank, 3/8” truck rods and I had aquired a vintage set of L2349 TRW closed chamber 30 over pistons that I used this time, this boosted the compression a little. With a set of steel shim gaskets it came out to 10.3:1. I also had it balanced. I added an old style LS-7 corvette trap door oil pan, windage tray and oil pump (Chevy still carries this stuff). Lunati Voodoo cam, GM long slot rockers, performer RPM intake, I modified my 850 double pumper for 4-hole idle to try and get some of the hit out of the cam with the AC on, Mallory coil and pertronix ignition, big tube full length Hooker Chevelle headers. I also went with a TCI breakaway converter. It runs real good but it took a few months tinkering to get the advance curve and spark plug heat range right. It was a ping monster for awhile but it’s just about sorted out. I still need to play with the jetting a little more.
Thanks for all the compliments ya’ll

Re: The GSFMech Build

Beautiful truck! Love a solid paint cheyenne with full trim, especially lowered on coys! Quick question, when you dyed your seat belts how did you keep the white tags from getting color on them? I've wanted to do this for a while but was afraid of dying the tags.

Sounds like a really cool motor! Those are a domed piston right? Are you able to run pump gas?

This was weird, when I dyed them I thought it would mess up the tag but the dye never touched the tags, it had no affect on them at all.

Yes they have domes. It took a lot of tuning but yes I can run 93 octane pump gas. A lot of it is keeping the quench height close as you can when you build the motor. I'm running right around .040"

It's a hydraulic flat tappet No. 10110703LK, specs are int .542 Exh 554, Duration @ .050 Int 227 Exh 233, 110 L.S. I grooved the lifter bores to help lube the cam and use Valvoline VR-1 With Zinc additive. I don't have a video of it but if I did I wouldn't know how to load it

Cheesing for the camera at Stine's I see! Glad to see a local on here. I'm on the two step plan. Step 1, build shop. Step 2 tear down the 1979 C20 and insert a Vortec 8.1L... My plan for now!

Thanks for the cam specs, I was looking at that same one. Do you have any issues producing enough vacuum for your power brakes and AC? How is the idle on it, nice and lumpy

Re: The GSFMech Build

To be honest I’m struggling a bit with the AC, the idle is pretty lumpy. I idle it up when I run the AC. No problems at all with the brakes, it has decent vacuum, right around 10” or so.

Thanks, this is what I'm worried about with mine, it has a really lumpy cam and I'm worried about the AC.
