Re: 1949 Chevy 3100 Build Thread
I can't get under my 81 enough to get a good pic but this sketch is the way my tank vent is..on the tank there's 2 nozzles..one for fill one for vent...on the fill end there is a 90* fitting welded onto the main fill tube on the upper side of the tube and close to the mounting flange..if the gas nozzle is inserted in the filler the 90* elbow is behind the nozzle tip

As for the tank venting, I called NO LIMIT and they said the tank is already vented to account for filling. If you look into the filler tube on the tank you can see a dedicated tube/chamber that leads to the other side of the tank where a NPT bung is welded. This is where I install the vent fitting and I run it to the frame rail at a point higher than the filler. If I need a second vent that would suck im going to trust no limit on this one and hope it works. When the chassis gets loaded on the trailer I will take it to the gas station and try it out. |

Re: 1949 Chevy 3100 Build Thread
More mind searching !
I bought a 1/2" fitting and drilled out a location in the pump/fuel line cover, there is room for this fitting with the 2 fuel lines and roll over vent in this plate. from there we went to the filler neck as high as we could and placed another 90* fitting in the rubber filler hose. We can now put fuel in the tank but still need to be a bit careful as you can not rush the fill up, fuel in'air/vapor out I did have trouble sealing the gasket around the plate for the pump and lines, so I am glad we found this out before the bed wood was in place

Re: 1949 Chevy 3100 Build Thread
That's a good point my painter offered to install my wood bed but I think I will need access until all the bugs are worked out. The wood will get installed once I'm happy with everything. The vent bung is 3/8 NPT. I'm gonna move onto the next since I won't know until I get to a gas station.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3100 Build Thread
I believe you won't have any problem with that vent..as long as the tank air has somewhere to go when your filling..except maybe where to mount the vent higher than the fill...

Flysocal,
How did that Frame less 1 piece glass work ? Did you trial fit it? Thickness wise how does it compare to the stock framed glass? is the felt channel different than stock? Thanks Nice progress

I have 49 doors so did not need the 1 piece conversion kit. All I can say is the kit is nice quality and I'm feeling good about it. The glass is the same thickness but frameless so the kit included special felt to account for this. Check back in a couple months and I will have an answer.... |

Re: 1949 Chevy 3100 Build Thread
Plugging away on little things while I have full access. ICT billet called for a 107" belt with standard alternator (what I have) did not fit so I ordered a 108" which also didn't fit (see pic). Had to go with a 109" belt, third times the charm. After several attempts at lower radiator hose I bought a long piece from orielly that had sever bends and cut it to size so that's done. Installed these trick white LEDs for my license plate from radiantz. I've used their products on my choppers and have been happy. Got my exhaust back from ceramic coater so that will get installed today, then I can finalize routing for fluids.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3100 Build Thread
Installed the exhaust. Glad I had it ceramic coated. Light duty tow hitch installed which also provides a little protection for the battery. With the exhaust installed I can start running my fluid lines. So far all I've got done is front braided lines installed left side goes direct to earls tee. Right side attaches to bracket then hard line along front crossmember to tee. I will work on this tomorrow.

You are really going to enjoy the ride, what springs do you have in front and rear?

Plumbing is almost done. Waiting on a couple more fittings but you get the idea. Ktools flaring tool worked nicely. 3/16 sur&r nickel copper hard lines. Very nice stuff and easy to work with. I bent the lines by hand and it's impressive stuff. Fragola braided fuel lines. |

Wow! Everything looks fantastic. Really impressed.
Who did you use for your ceramic coating? I hadn't considered black before but it looks great and long term will probably look better than the shiny silver ceramic I had in mind. Have you used it before? If so, for how long and how has it held up? Thanks for the info on radiantz!

Flysocal, Maybe we discussed this before - I admit I don't recall. Your rims are Boyd's Junkyard Dogs, right? What size? My rims are Boyd's Smoothies but I don't know if theyre originals. I assume there was such a thing as Smoothie II's and Smoothie III's?

Re: 1949 Chevy 3100 Build Thread
Sold the 71 Camaro because the wife wants a convertible cruiser. Did the unthinkable and bought this sight unseen from NJ. Seems crazy bringing a NE car to Cali but the price was right and I couldn't resist. It's a 1968 Firebird Convertible. With the garage freed up for a couple months I can clean this up, put new quarters on it. Hopefully it's not worse than the pictures lead me to believe!

Re: 1949 Chevy 3100 Build Thread
gorgeous work, I would probably never drive that truck just wipe it with a diaper and mutter "my precious" till they called the doofy wagon on me.
my experience with nj cars tells me you might be a little optimistic but hey, the heart wants what it wants!
