Maldo that is quite the blazer - not many highlander 2wd. Thanks for posting. Where did get the upholstery? The plaid looks great. What's the story on the blazer and what are your plans?

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Blazer/Jimmy?

Well the story is kinda funny, when I was 30ish I had a 71 2wd all stock. the color was the orange my kids hated it and would not ride in it, I bought a house and wanted to fix the house so I sold it to a family member. I missed it every day. I married a wonderful women and on my 50th birthday she bought me the 72 Highlander. we got it out of Florida, when it arrived I had buyers remorse the interior had green and cream seats and the door cards , seat belts and visors where all that parchment color I didn't know what it was until at a car show someone told me it was a Highlander. after a lot of research I am trying to get it back to stock. as far as the seats go I did those last winter, bought covers from I think pdi or something like that and insert fabric from sms and had a friend put the two together and on the blazer they went.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Blazer/Jimmy?

I have a couple questions for you blazer nuts. #! my blazer is supposed to have the small camper mirrors (1df210) what do we think, yes or no. #2 Do I leave the engine compartment stock with vacuum lines and all or clean it up by removing some things. #3 right now it has the stock engine with 70k on it and it runs great, the original th350 ( I have it ) was replaced with a 700r4 good thing or bad. #4 my wife and I ( she was really under the car the hole time ) lowered the car with drop (cpp) spindles and springs front and back. good thing or bad thing ??? Thank you all for your help in this.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Blazer/Jimmy?

#1 - the DF2 camper mirrors are the large stainless steel examples (example here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...64&postcount=5 ). These were the only optional mirror for 72 K5s (pickups also had below-eyeline mirrors as an option) and are included on the promotional package highlanders such as yours (RPO YG8). I say YES!

#2 - you'll hear many opinions. Mine would be to keep it completely stock as I'm an admitted purist. Take a look through the SPIDs on this thread - how many 2wd examples are posted? Not many original 2wds K5s are kept stock let alone the unicorn highlander example and it would probably stand out splendidly against the now modified norm. Post up some pics when possible of the engine compartment.

#3 - are you sure the tranny is original to the blazer? Check the code stamped onto the oil pan. If original keep it. Since the 700r4 is already installed just go with it. Hang onto any parts related to the tranny. I installed a 700r4 in my K20 but it has 4.10 gears. I rebuilt the original th350 for my highlander, which now has 3.73 gears, to maintain originality. For the type of driving I'll do and with 33" tires the th350 will be fine.

#4 - see #2. If you are happy its all good. Keep the old parts if you still have them.

If you still have buyers remorse let me know I might be able to cure that Do you have any of the original sales paperwork or the metal protect-o-plate? What else were you thinking of in terms of trying to get it back to a more stock appearance?

To add picture to your name: Pick pull down "User CP" at top of page, then "Edit Avatar". Avatar is what that picture is called. You will need to resize your picture to work as Avatar. Hope this helps

Found an odd one today. Yellow with green plaid, idiot light cluster, non ac, and lots of rust. Only two pictures I took

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Blazer/Jimmy?

Here's one. Bought from the original owner by a board member. I don't know much else yet but what a nice original paint example of a non promo St Louis built plaid K5 featuring the white accents on the step face and wheel tubs and rear carpet trim strip used up front.
