Do you have a 1972 Plaid Blazer/Jimmy?

REVISED
Many people know about the 72 Highlander Plaid seat trim option on both Chevrolet and GMC conventional light trucks.

However in an attempt to reach out to those who don't know I am asking people who are not sure to please check the trim code/s of their trucks.

Often the seat covers have been replaced leaving few clues beyond white door panels (again often changed) and seat belts with black dash pad, column and carpet.

So if you could, let us know if you have (or just found!) "Hidden Highlander"

The codes to look for are below.
Also just in case SPID reading is new to you the code may have leading and trailing numbers even letters. Reading between the lines may be needed.

Examples 613, _ 613_ _, 613_ _

As far as the SPID description goes, generally you will see "CUSTOM TRIM COMBINA" or the COLOR followed by "...HIGHLANDER P"

This thread is body style specifc so if you have several different body styles please check the other forums for the specific trim codes as applicable. Not trying to crosspost this, just touch with all who may have a Highlander.

Blazer CST Z84 mandatory option
Avocado 680
Blue 677
Gray 671
Orange 686

REVISED
In addition to the Highlander plaid trim your vehicle may ALSO have a Promo Package code.
These bundled options with the plaid trim for a cost savings in three packages "A", "B" and "C"
On the SPID they are coded:
YG6
YG7
YG8

Promo package codes.

A= YG6 Plaid Trim, Special Wheelcovers C10/K5 (PA1) or Chrome Hubcaps K10/K5(PO3), Door Edge Guards and Stainless Camper Mirrors (DF2).

B= YG7 (includes A) Adds Turbo-Hydramatic Trans., Power Steering and Tilt.

C= YG8 (includes A and B) Adds A/C and Tint.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Blazer/Jimmy?

Well I guess you can say I de High landered my truck. When I was restoring it I went with blue vinyl inside because I was on a budget and it was about 1/4 of the price. I would have also had to custom make the seat covers at the time. I switched the door panels, carpet and seat belts out but left the black dash. Also went with black seat belts to even it out plus blue belts was harder to find. my spid sows the "custom trim combina" so I guess I could put it back if I really wanted to.

Please post yours up if you want. The intent is to get people aware of these and dig up lost Highlanders. Its often a numbers game as that is all that is left, the numbers on the SPID! Would like to have everyone give a shout so we can see what kind of population there is especially the few and far between GMCs.

Man I like this thread. These pics have me seriously thinking of changing my interior on my 72 when the time comes to doing that restoration.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Blazer/Jimmy?

Here is the interior of my 1972 Jimmy. It looks to be a Highlander I see the Z84. The Spid says it has the Parchment interior but the seat vinyl is darker then Parchment also the seats look to be more like 1973 seats. My question is do you think these seats were replacements of the originals?

Without a doubt those are replacement seats.

"As built", per the SPID, your Jimmy had a white interior and console. With a white top and the GMC Meduim Red the white interior would be quite striking. Sorry I don't seem to have a picture handy to post.

To hazzard a guess those are probably 76-77 seats.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Blazer/Jimmy?

Tim at Truckseats (on this board) can help in making it happen (correct Highlander plaid seat covers). You're correct in that nobody makes them "off the shelf" with the scrollwork on the vinyl, however, Tim (Truckseats) and the folks at SMS can coordinate and make it happen. I ordered the materials from SMS via Tim, and coordinated with the guy at SMS directly on the scrollwork, etc. He walked it through the production process for the materials and Tim stitched it together into this: 611 blue plaid trim on a Promo Pkg C 72 C20.
I paid Tim for everything (I think) although it was two separate bills - one for the materials in order to get them custom made at SMS and shipped directly to Tim, then another for Tim's part in stitching it all together just before he shipped it to me. Hope that helps.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Blazer/Jimmy?

Here is a pic of my spid. If in fact it is indeed a highlander it definitely has the attributed spid codes you have in your post. AM I correct in assuming the Z84 and the YG8 are the promo package C? The seats were recovered in blue but I have the original Parchment colored visors and seat belts.
