Re: 66 slammed hearse
That 348 would be cool and all but the 454 might be a better choice in many ways. Of course I am a little partial to 454's....

Re: 66 slammed hearse
KD,
Hearse look Excellent nice job... as for the motor... I would vote for the 348 however 454 might be a bit more practical. nothing on that thing is what one would expect. So I say 348.. keep the "WTF" that you have going with the whole thing going...LOL Looks great... congrats. |

Re: 66 slammed hearse
First, thanks to Jared for posting the pics, Second, thanks for all of the compliments, it means alot. Now, I cant decide what engine to build, the 454 is alot more practical, but everyone has one, Now the 348 on the other and is a runner and will look great under that hood. So maybe we should ask for a poll and I will let the board decide what ol' KD does next. So to any of the mods who find themselves reading this, how 'bout it? hook me up with a poll? 454 vs 348 in the hearse build? You decide.

Re: 66 slammed hearse
That is a late 30's early 40's chevy, known as a carved side. The whole tail is carved hardwood and they are very rare. As for the 348, you dont really need a boat anchor, do ya? lol thanks for the cool pics Jon, keep em coming!

Re: 66 slammed hearse
here are a few more for you...
I guess he dragged it out of a garage in mexico city. now I figure that 348 will save me from having to buy dropped spindles for my 65, and then I might be able to get out of peoples way!... or at least my own |

Re: 66 slammed hearse
ok, the new problem is I cant keep a battery charged, I have ruled out the battery, Because it dies when you unhook the battery, so I am thinking the alternator. Anyone got a schematic for the proper wiring of a 3 wire alt?
Now on to the 348, since I last posted I have acquired a tri power intake and carbs, so I think the clear choice is to use the 454, just kidding. I am going to clean up the 348 and do some tests, maybe rebuild it if it needs it and throw it under the hood. Jared run the numbers and we found it came in a '60 model chevy passenger car, has the better heads and cooling system and is rated at 315hp. I have also acquired a new project truck, and I do mean TRUCK! I scooped up a 1948 white wa22 big truck that I am going to give the rat rod treatment to, slam to the running boards, move the giant front axle out in front of the grille, clip and z the rear so the massive 2 speed rearend is right behind the cab. Its a runner with a 368 cid flathead straight 6 that makes 258 lbs of torque and an amazing 36 hp, yes 36 hp. heres some pics of what I'm talking about, and feel free to photoshop.

Re: 66 slammed hearse
Post up some pics of that 348 when you get going on it. Ive always been interested but have never messed with one. A guy drives down to the Valley for car shows in a 60 Impala from Prescott and has a 3-carb 348. Its also a convertible and is really cool. I think this set-up would be perfect for your truck.
