Re: 53 3100 - complete rebuild and upgrade . . . .
A little more of an update.
Since I decided to use replacement pedals (shorter) I had to move the brake booster a bit. After getting all the geometry right I had to decide how to "move" a hole, so I decided to chop it out and make a replacement. Added a few button heads around the plate to make it interesting? and tacked it in (it'll all be welded up once the fab is complete). Gun- drilled the pivot pin (5/8) and tapped for grease fittings, added bushings, etc. Pedals are nice and smooth with no play side to side. Yes, I'll have to clearance the inner fender a fuzz, but minimal. Mocked it all back up and now to notch for the go- pedal next. More later - Dan

Re: 53 3100 - complete rebuild and upgrade . . . .
A little more progress. Once the clutch and brake pedals were sorted I moved to the gas pedal. Using a simple spoon style. Because of the tunnel/ firewall, I expected to have to recess a bit for the gas pedal. Got that done and tacked, still with plenty of clearance, and pulled the cab to get it all welded up.
About a month of welding to go - Thanks for looking - Dan

Re: 53 3100 - complete rebuild and upgrade . . . .
Time for a little update - life sure does get busy!
Finished the gas pedal cutout on the firewall and welded everything up. Routed all the brake lines (3/16 steel, AN3 fittings). Trimmed the fender wells for clearance, and checked alignment of the rear end, and picked up my gas tank. All in all, steady progress the last few months. Goal is to be finished with the chassis soon and then start wrapping everything else up. More later - thanks for looking - Dan

Re: 53 3100 - complete rebuild and upgrade . . . .
One last update - should have the rear together in the next weeks, hanging the tank as well. Using a 15 gallon universal tank from "Tanksinc" with internal pump. Customer service was outstanding with them. Rear will be a 31 spline 9in, Detroit Truetrac with 3.89 gears. With 28.4" tires and 0.68 OD should turn around 2k at 65 - not too bad.
More later - Dan

Playing around with hanging the gas tank while waiting for the rest of the rear end parts to show up. One bite at a time . . .

be sure to insulate the straps and anything that touches the tank. I'm sure you have that already in mind.

Re: 53 3100 - complete rebuild and upgrade . . . .
yep, ground the tank to the frame and the filler spout, at the spout end, to the frame as well. static kills.
ever been at the airport and seen a fuel truck? they ground everything. the vehicles sit on rubber, so insulated from the actual ground, so making a complete circuit from the filler to the tank is essential. this is a step forgotten by most. good thinkiing on your part. |

Re: 53 3100 - complete rebuild and upgrade . . . .
Continuing along on a rainy day so starting assembly on the 9in. True-trac, 3.89 gear, etc. Whipped up some brackets to hold everything still, just enjoying the day. One of my favorite parts. More later -

Re: 53 3100 - complete rebuild and upgrade . . . .
I've been studying EFI for months now. Finally made a decision and had a day off, so made a quick road trip with my Dad to Summit in McDonough, GA and picked it up. Going with Edelbrock ProFlow-4, 550hp kit. Looks nice, will be a little different than the"log" style, and I've always had great service with Edelbrock if needed. Still moving along - thanks for looking-
