Re: mylow53 build
Definitly to high! I dont like when the back of the seats are above the glass! looks like the old days when people used to put high back Van bucket seats in pickup trucks! Cut it down

This is too nice to have those seats sticking up like that. Cut them down.

Re: mylow53 build
thanks bill. my dad bought a new 68 chevy 1 ton longhorn long bed similar to yours. I learned how to drive in that thing! dad said the only way he would let me drive is if he had a couple of beers!
Hey what are people paying for an upholstered seat these days? GT

Re: mylow53 build
i HAD my stock seat redone in leather in my 55 about 3 years ago and I think he charged me 500.00 but I supplied the hide.
The new truck I am building I am not going to use all leather as it is too hot in the summer, have ypou looked into ultra leather?

I agree cut it down, check e bay for leather, you can get hides for $100 a piece.

Just throwing this out there, I got a hide of tooling leather from Tandy Leather Factory a few years ago for around $60.00 shipped if i remember correctly, you could check them out if you're looking for leather.

Re: mylow53 build
Greg, it was nice to meet you and your family today. If you make it to the Pismo show with the '53, let me know so I can see it in person. I haven't done any leather interior, so I can't help you out there. keep up the good work,
Daniel U

Re: mylow53 build
thanks daniel your truck is nice. and i cant believe your camaro has over 200k miles and still looks good.
while i was out in pismo we also visited arroyo grande. they were celebrating their independence form caltranz in the "village" a little odd if you ask me but they had the Barney fife mobile there. very original like a barn find all the chrome was pitted and the rubber was rotten but man i'd love to drive it. when we got home on sunday my air system arrived and it was christmas again! I of course couldn't wait so i installed the air tank where the spare use to go. i didn't need to drill one hole all four holes lined up with some existing ones! PRETTY COOL also cut 4 inches off the seats and dropped off the seat frame and cushions this morning!

Re: mylow53 build
4 grand for your spit bench is WAAY high..i was gonna say as well, ur not gonna get a good full hide for 100 bucks.. either that or its real small.
go to a big FBO around you, (airport) not the terminal, but the "full service gas stations for airplanes" ask around to see if you can talk to someone in the maintnence department and ask them if their trim guys have any leather that they arent using or that they over ordered on... the leather they use, is GOING to be high end, and if you get lucky, maybe they are doing 2 or 3 of the same fleet of jets and they have a crap load! haha we just picked up 3 WHOLE hides for free, and 2 of them were real nice size and not cut out of. just something else to think about, i would say, if your gonna get them seat backs cut down, and do a different color on your insert, i would say a complete bench like that would be aroune 1500 -2000 bucks depending on how much custom work has to be done to the seat, and bottom line, what you want done to it. anyways, lookin real awesome on your progress! good luck! Re: mylow53 build
hang on ill post some picts monday.... i can tell you thou i had all the remaining windows installed. and the seat should be done soon I'm waiting for a call back from the upholstery guy. i plan on starting the truck this weekend, to set the idle. then i need to engineer a throttle peddle. i want the stock peddle to work with the new carb/v8. i don't want to see a see saw arrangement with a hole thru my brand new painted firewall. any ideas would be appreciated.
GT thanks for asking Ivan
