Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family
I really can't figure out why GM did not make the 67-72 Suburban's 4 doors. Internationals Travelall had been a 4 door since the redesign in 1961 and the Jeep Wagoner was a 4 door since its introduction also. I suppose GM thought it was a safety feature to load everyone behind the front seat from the curb side. Then again GM's station wagons all had 4 doors even going back to the woodie body style. GM and Jeep did build 2 door wagons, but were eventually eliminated due to the lack of convenience that a 4 door provides.
Your Tahoe link still does not work, does it describe why it won't pass smog? If it was originally a 49 state vehicle California cannot make you install anything other than 49 state smog stuff on it, so what's missing, the cat? |

Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family
I looked for the thread and it is GONE, so I will start a new one on it. It is an original CA emissions vehicle, and I am the second owner. I will start a new thread on it since I have been tinkering with it for a while these last few months.

Still gathering parts. Life is moving at the speed of life so it's probably not going to get touched until the summer. That's when I'll put the transmission together

Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family
First things first,
Sutter Grace 3-30-15 And that makes 4! My big kids keep asking me when the Suburban can come out of the trailer, and I keep having to tell them when the big truck is running. I think it is awesome that they are gnawing at the bit as much as I am to get the burb back on the road. I decided a while back that the 700r wasn't what I wanted, so I sourced a 91 4L80E, TCM, Harness, and sensors off a diesel. It's 2WD but that's no bother. I am also set on using a NP241 case, but... I have a TH400/NP205... so I am leaning toward the 4L80E/NP205 just because I wont need anything to run that other driveshafts... maybe. I am going to build and sell the 700r4/NP205 and throw that up for sale on CL to see if I can fund the interior.

flash back to 2011, and post #212...
I started this... And scrapped it in favor of this... So much easier doing it this way.

Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family
Sorry it was a light hearted comment. I'm making my own the way he did and he said the new way was easier. Was joking that the easiest way was for someone else to do it.

Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family
I don't get the last two comments at all. He is just showing a set of door strikers with no mention of purchase, sale, wanted or whatever. What's the deal?

Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family
Travis, I'll see if I still have the cut files. I'll share those if I still have them. Then you'll just have to find someone with a CNC plasma table and someone with a break. I'm guessing you got edited for asking if I was gonna sell one. I had one made for mine and one made for my brothers. I haven't had any luck selling my used parts here in BFC so I let my premium lapse. But like I said, if I can find the files, and if you can get them made, I'll share. That's what we do here, right? Share? I think I'm gonna drill and tap the plates 10-32 to hold the springs. I had the guys delete those holes so I could do it myself.

Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family
I made a comment that the only thing easier than making them that was was if someone else made them for you. It was deleted within minutes. That's why it's confusing now.

Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family
Seems like some pretty overzealous moderators there!
Instead of reading the post they target key words and send out some unfriendly message! So when a guy sends or receives a message to share info, he gets bugged to be a paying member? I thought sharing knowledge was what these forums were all about. I've seen people post product names and vendors in other posts and not get tagged, so I'm still at a loss here. |

Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family
He's been gone for years, unfortunately .
Jeremy, I might be getting a 4l80e that is 4x4 and I need the 2wd stuff. If I end up getting it, I'd trade ya if you wanted.

Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family
Sharpie had some great stuff, really! Ryan, tailshaft, housing, and yoke? I actually needed to pick your brain... I've hit a brick wall on the cummins crew. My fan is up too high. any suggestions? I do not want to drop the engine any more than it already is.

Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family
I have both... I tried the 1st Gen IC one first (I think) I'll pull them both out and check them out. I'm looking at this 454 fan I have too, but it's not really scratching the itch
