Everything really looks great man! You are making some awesome progress. Can't wait to see some colour. By the way, if I've missed it I'm sorry but what colour are you going with?

You didn’t miss it. I’ve gone back and forth on a color, but I finally landed on a blue/gray color called area 51. It’s a Ford color that they use on their new ford broncos. It really caught my eye. So far I’m happy with my choice.

Re: 67 SWB First Build

We have paint! As mentioned above, i went with the ford color, area 51. It’s a solid blue/gray color. I’ve seen a handful of the ford broncos and the color has a great appearance.

I used the debeer paint system. It consisted of a gray sealer, base coat and clear coat. Tonight I painted the interior of the doors, the inside of the fenders, the firewall/interior cab and jambs. It turned out pretty decent for my first paint job. I have some runs in the clear that I’ll have to sand out, but I can’t say I’m surprised. The color looks a tad bit darker in person than it appears in the pictures.

Hopefully more to come in the near future.

Al

Thanks fellas. I think it’ll look good when it’s all done. I definitely learned a few things that will come in handy when I paint the exterior.

Re: 67 SWB First Build

Made it up to the shop this weekend. Had enough time to spray the bed. Unfortunately I’ll be redoing the bedsides. There was some orange peel in the clear and after wet sanding, it was evident i didn’t put enough clear down. I’ll more than likely leave the front bed panel alone. It turned out decent. Hoping to get everything painted over the next month or so.

Re: 67 SWB First Build

Bedsides sanded down. I decided to leave the roll pan alone as well. I seemed to hit that area with plenty of clear. I’ll plan on reshooting later this week!

Re: 67 SWB First Build

Cab and bed in paint, finally! Turned out great for the most part, other than a few runs where i laid the clear on a little too thick. There is also 1 spot where it looks like i missed scuffing in a nook and cranny. I should be able to fix it with little issue. Looking forward to getting the rest done soon!

Re: 67 SWB First Build

Beautiful truck man, very nice. One suggestion for your consideration . . . I love the fuel cap, and actually did the exact same thing/location on my 62 LB. However, I would suggest if you can, or while you can - order some more of those pop-up screw in caps. Mine lasted great for about a month and then would no longer work. I had to change mine out to something different. Hopefully your experience is better than mine, but trust me it will be worth the extra cost to have 1 or 2 extras lying around.
Keep up the awesome work!

Thanks for the compliments and advice. That’s a good call on the extra caps. I need to jump on that.

Hoping for more progress in the near future once I get some extra muscle to move the bed back on the frame.

Re: 67 SWB First Build

Had a buddy swing by the other weekend and help me place the bed back on the frame. Then, over the next couple of weeks a managed to get my grill and tailgate in paint. They turned out looking good. I plan on painting the letters later down the road. Last week I taped everything off and sprayed a bed liner kit. I’m really happy with how that turned out

My father in law swung by yesterday and helped me install the tailgate. Had a heck of a time getting it to fit right, but after messing with it today, I’ve almost got it!

Will plan on getting the grill installed soon and possibly break out the wiring harness.

Re: 67 SWB First Build

Scurry67, I have been reading up on your build and really like how it is coming out. Great work! I was seriously thinking of doing the dash pad elimination like you did but didn't. Now I kinda wish I did. Very impressive!!

I am hoping to start working on the frame soon so in the spring I can get the cab on the frame. I can't wait to finish my '68 stepside, it will be my daily driver and show truck.

Much appreciated. I’m very satisfied with the color selection. Can’t wait to get it in the actual daylight.

Thanks for the compliment. I think it’ll be a nice and subtle touch to the interior. It looks like you’re moving right along on your build too! Enjoying the read.

Re: 67 SWB First Build

Not much to report for progress, and likely won’t be for atleast a few months. Baby #2 arrived before Christmas, a healthy baby girl! Until then, it’ll have to be quick trips just to gaze and living vicariously through everyone else’s builds.

Re: 67 SWB First Build

Those 2 babies will give you so much more of a return on your investment than your super cool pick up truck. Congratulations on the healthy beautiful girl!

Re: 67 SWB First Build

It’s been about 8 months since my last update. Been having too much fun with the fam and too busy at work to get anything done.
Earlier this spring i went in the shop, and realized that there were a few blemishes in my paint on the bed sides. I ended up sanding through the base again… just not enough clear. I also had a spot on the dash that i didn’t hit with enough base coat. At this point i was a little discouraged about having to paint it again, but figured I’d get it in the fall when things slowed down again at work.

Well, it’s Fall now and things should be slowing down soon at work. For a little motivation, i cut and buffed the pass door and fender. It definitely helped (don’t mind the mess).
