Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite

well fellas, did a little shopping yesterday! Went and got a universal bumper that you could buy from lmctrucks.com, brackets were for a 71, so got to buy the brackets for my 77, but it will be getting done no doubt!

And...........this coming up week, I'm going to be buying a cam for the 305 from a board member so it should be pretty sick! Can't wait to get it and install it!

they don't match up, I actually thought I was going to be able to cut the brackets some and make it work but it wont, the bottom hole matches up with the frame but the upper one doesn't. I'm sure if you had a drill or something like that you could maybe make the current brackets work, but you would have to modify them slightly.

Maybe that's something I could do try and modify them? just for kicks and grins since I have to buy new brackets anyway.

your gonna need a drill press if they're plate steel. and breaking a big drill bit would suck lol. i was just curious. but ive never hand drilled plate steel, itd take to long. but if you want just for kicks and grins lol

lol yeah for kicks and grins it might be worth it yeah I mean when i saw it I was like dang I might get lucky and it match up, well I test fit it when we got back to my dads and well like I said the bottom matches fine the top not so much, honestly I think if you drilled a hole in it, you'd be fine it seemed like it sat fine I didn't have anything to hold it up so that why i really didn't look too much into it, maybe that's something I'll do this coming up Friday, as I'll be off work, I can see how close the match it.

Like I told my dad the other day, we learn by trial and error

the Throttle body injected 305 engine i had in my camaro i took it to 6000 and back more times then you can count on your hands and feet. the thing was wild. but one day it had a loud bang and my buddy owned it, the 305 had blown the head gasket. the thing about it is i was told you could NEVER take a 305 to 6000 without it grenading. well i proved alot of people wrong by doing it. also it had straight y pip coming off of it so you can imagine. Plus it was a newer roller engine

Your crazy man!! but yeah seems like something I would do, well you know many ppl frown upon the 305 say its puny power, but it packs a little punch truthfully I'm really going to try and get about 400hp out of it or get as close as I can, of course it may not compare to no 350 or whatever but I'll have one badass 305 and well if somewhere in the process it goes boom well I'll say F.I.S.H. (f!@# it s!@# happens) not sure if they approve the cussing that's used in the words so I know were all smart enough to figure it out though.

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite

are you cleaning it up so you can paint it? one time, i took a small block oil pan and let purple power sit in it.... i was sorta disappointed. but it did take one inch of grease out of the pan. was planning on reusing the pan. but the stuff in there was completely out of date. purple power literatly rusted the inside walls instead of taking the grease and tearing it apart... must admit, if a cleaner can rust something like some stamped steel, thats impressive

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite

Yeah I plan on getting it painted one day lol I'm prolly going to send it off to get power coated unless I just feel super confident I can do it myself. Yeah mine is just a lot of dirt build up I think so I'll prolly hose the frame down and see what comes off and take the next step from there you know?

Ah dont be hard on your own abilitys. ive seen hot rodders, serious fabricators do a chop cut rebuild and use a rattle can of rustoleum over there frame, its a special under coating type paint, and its easy diyourselfer... he may have cut corners. but theres no denying he did it right!!

Yeah if there's a rattle can that I can use to coat it properly then yeah I'm going to do it myself just for that fact at the end of the day i'll be able to say yeah I did it myself!

So.....I had something pretty cool happen, as y'all know we have contest for the TOTM and TOTY well I saw what was in for the TOTM rules and said hey my truck applies to that, so here just thought it's cool that I was picked as a runner for it here's the link if you want to go check out the trucks that are also in the competition too.

No progress yesterday it was actually a day of running errands and be lazy for a change, but today since I am posting this at 6am on Saturday morning, me and my dad are going to change the shocks today and that will probably be the only real thing I'm going to see if the brackets will work on the truck by maybe just drilling through it, but all progress will be posted later no worries fellas!!

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite

Well today was a little bit of a disappointment. Got 3 of 4 shocks put on it took pretty much all day to get all the work done. Which happens sometimes I understand that, which word of advice if y'all change the shocks on your trucks, if you have headers drop them because on the passenger side it's so tight you can barely get to it. I wasn't able to get mine off so it's sitting on my jack and jack stand until probably next week when I'll give it another shot.

But regardless out with the old in with the new, tell me what you guys think

Honestly the rear was a breeze, if your bed is on I would take off your wheels to make it easier on yourself but it was pretty simple off and on, I had the first off and new one on in about 30 minutes maybe.

We used Gabriel Pro Guard I believe, they were $25 a pop at autozone.
