Nice body work!!!

Well my task this week included less finesse than body work LOL...

Used a hand grinder to cut transmission cross member from my '61, helped tons in getting the motor out ....Needed the rm any way to put my 350 tranny in , oh yeah and of course I removed a the clip to do all this detail work

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I finished up my rear suspension today except for the track bar which is on it's way. I still have to order and install a new center crossmember to raise the trailing arms but at least it's back on 4 wheels for now. Brakes are probably next. I pushed it out of the garage and washed it up a bit before starting the next phase. Here are a few pics. I also borrowed member Frizzle Fry's idea for relocating the rear shocks. It worked out great. Thanks Friz for the idea.

Your truck is really looking nice.
The cab appears to be in nice shape.

Yeah I got pretty lucky on this truck. Minimal rust in the front corners of the floors and that's about it except for the passenger side vent assembly or whatever it's called. It's the outer part that the bottoms all pick up crud and then rust out except mine is also rusted at the top. I need a whole new one when I get to the point of rust repair. If you remember I asked obout that parts cab you picked up. But I"m a ways off from needing one, but it's on the list. I kinda grab stuff as I go when I find a great price.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

So Frizzle Fry and pdxhall, tell me about the shock relocation on the rear. I'm getting ready to order a 5 inch lowering kit for my 64 short stepside, which includes shocks and relocating brackets etc. I like the way that setup you have there looks.

I got the idea from Frizzle, he did it first on his truck. He has a link http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...postid=4730005 where he shows how it's done. Basically you just swap the rear lower shock mounts from one side to the other and drill a new mounting hole. Then a hole is drilled in the frame for the upper mount and a stock front mounting bolt is attached to that. You will need to grind a little off of the trailing arm, as shown, and that's all there is to it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

today i put a used chrome bumper and a sanded down steeel grill on my truck to see how straight they are....answer is they are straight enough. i will continue to sand the grill until i go through all the grits and have all the scratches out...then clear coat. i'm not sure how to get the scratches out of the bumper without destroying the chrome so i will prolly get some weak acid and treat the areas that are brown get it as shiny as i can and clear coat it too. any better suggestions that a re cheap or free are welcome. i'm poor and i will not be buying anything new for a very long time. i actually traded my painted bumper and twenty bucks for the chrome one. i'm looking for an oem radio and an oem auto steering column by the way

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

You could try some Hapitch semi-chrome polishing paste with a buffer worked purty good on mine. I think the paste is still under $10. What your doing looks good so far good luck....Vernski

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Wasnt all today but I have removed the rusted out rocker panels measured and almost ready to remove and replace all of the passenger front floor board, outer rear floor board, cab corner, front cab piller supoport, cab support, inner and outer rockers.

Also waiting on a sand blasting kit to arrive so I can make sure exactly what metal is good to keep and what isnt. The PO decided that instead of replacing rusty floors he would go ahead and fill everything with bondo and that would do just fine. So on top of removing rusty pieces I'm having to decide what is metal and what is Bondo'ed rust.

Took her for an 80+ mile drive around a nearby lake. Good cruise, didn't have any time to stop for pictures though.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Changed the old oil thats been it it for 7 years while it sat in a guys back yard.

Put in new halogen headlights so I could see when I drive it.

Took off the boat anchor back bumper that was on it, thing weighed a ton.

Scraped all the decals and crud off the back window. Removed an add on air conditioner that didn't work and cleaned a bit under the hood.

Just bought this 64 C10 and am fiddling around with it like a kid with a new toy.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Stripped the top-end off my engine and began cleaning up the wiring harness. Bought copper tubing and header wrap to re-route the heater "hoses" and fuel line. Tucking any visible wires and hoses down and out of sight (except top/bottom radiator hoses, of course). The new intake manifold is going in tomorrow... Before and after pics coming soon.
