Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Haven't been able to get much done on the truck lately because of another project I've been Working on and I'm pretty deep into it, I thought I'd show you guys. Doing a full rebuild on my xr100 plus a big bore kit that will make it 120cc and also a new clutch, tires etc. I should have it all wrapped up in the next couple days and be able to get back on the truck.

Kool ornament. Looks like the center lines in the hood could be jet streams coming out of the back.

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Thanks randy, yes that is probably my favourite part of the 62-66 hoods but I do favour 60 hoods which is what I'm going to use. I have seen somebody on here have the best of both hoods by taking the lines from the later hood and welding it into the earlier hood. But my 62 hood is to nice to chop up so I don't think that'll be happening.

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Got everything on the engine and engine bay all buttoned up and I'm confident it will run well this time. I just want to get the right tranny fluid before I run it anymore so it may be a few days. Oh and I managed to find a 60-62 v8 hydraulic clutch bellhousing that I'm picking up this weekend for a great deal just in case I ever want to go v8 in the future

But on a positive note I did finish rebuilding the engine for my dirt bike, I did a big bore kit, clutch and bigger valves. http://youtu.be/_hzehgbL5mM so now I'll get to spend some more time on the truck.

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Just filled up the t5 with penzoil's finest. Got it started up and right away I could tell that the gasket is now sealing. It's really quite, except for backfiring. Yep still having problems. It starts easily now but it just won't idle, I have to keep the rpm's up then it just backfires and usually dies. I've played around with the air fuel mixture screw and just can't get it to idle or run smooth. Here's a video http://youtu.be/k-DiHR2XeO4
Thanks

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Oh never mind guys, once it warmed up it would run smoothly but would idle too low and then die. I bumped the idle up and it runs great now, idles at 300rpm. Exhaust has a nice sound to it. http://youtu.be/0Zxcsv9oupM

Got a bit of work done on the rig today, fabbed up an inner rocker for the passenger side. Still needs some grinding but it's starting to take shape

Thanks tj

It took about 15 minutes of welding. It's ok if the metal heats up a bit since it is part of the floor and it's all covered by the rocker and floor mat. I usually tack a couple places then use a small hammer to persuade it into the spot I want then more tacking. Thanks Thank you

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
I thought I'd show you guys a donor truck I'm picking up in the next week or so.
1978 GMC Sierra that is complete minus the motor. $300. I will be using the front crossmember for the 62 so I can have disk brakes and cheaper front end parts. I'll also use the rear axle plus all four 15" 5 lug steeleies so that it is 5 lug all around instead of having 5 on the front and 6 on the rear. I'm considering also doing power steering. |
