Re: Rustbuket 67 build "Georgia"
I can see the up grade on the spring holders. Mine did not have the nuts only a hole. I did not thing of welding nuts like you did . I used a long bolt and lock washer and nut.

Re: Rustbuket 67 build "Georgia"
I wish I was as meticulous as you are with your build. I get to impatient.
I'm going to assemble my engine Christmas weekend, I'll swing by sometime within the week to borrow those tools.

Thanks Jim! Thanks, I love your project. All the fancy race car parts and the 4ott setup still blows my mind. You definitely think outside the mail order catalog. Quote:

Okay I re-re-did my patch job welding on the frame and cut some box plates with our plasma at work, welded them in.

Re: Rustbuket 67 build "Georgia"
I painted all the overlapping surfaces with flat black and torqued the front suspension crossmember and trans crossmember to the frame. I used the assembly manual and it says 55-75 lbs ft so Itorqued them to 70 lb ft. I could not find anything for the trans crossmember and the bolts included by GMC Pauls are grade 5 so I left them at 40 lb ft untill I find some other specs.

Re: Rustbuket 67 build "Georgia"
First coat of paint. I am going to repaint the front crossmember gloss like the rest but I did not paint in front of it or the rear past the shock crossmember because I have more welding to do....

Re: Rustbuket 67 build "Georgia"
Second coat. This is Tractor Supply farm and implement paint, alkyd enamel. Thick, hard, and shiny! Had my frame been in better shape and if I had fixed all the little problems before I would have much rather had it powdercoated, live and learn. It was getting dark so the pics are pretty poor as far as the lighting goes.

Re: Rustbuket 67 build "Georgia"
I also cut the rivets for the pan hard (or track bar, what ever you want to call it), the shock mounts, and the front cross member so I can mount my sway bar brackets and I managed to fubar that job so the crossmember will be coming out so I can remove whats left of the rivets. I will be opening boxes of NEW parts very soon and ordering some more, next order will be a tracking bar from Porterbuilt

Mmmmm Both, Originally I started with rolling and brushing with matte black then decided I liked the gloss better. I was going to use my spray gun but researched the paints msds and could not find any chemical difference in spray can vs quarts so I did the gloss in spray cans (convenience issue). The front suspension crossmember is 100% brush/roller. it does level out well, not quite as good as POR15 but it does level and takes quite a while to dry. You can tell it is different when the gloss dries it looks and feels like POR, you can tell how thick and hard it is not at all like regular rattle can paint. I can get a pic of the part I rolled tomorrow in the sun if you like. http://tsc.tractorsupply.com/search#...&sliredirect=1

Re: Rustbuket 67 build "Georgia"
I was thinking John Deere green would clash with the blue exterior paint Maybe Caterpillar yellow like our fork lift at work would match, better consult the wife. My daughter thinks I should paint it purple (yuck) I guess I am a pretty safe boring honkey so a black frame it is. I want to paint the trailing arms, control arms, pan hard, and sway bar a silver or charcoal grey. I will call you next week about that seat... Can I have your biscayne now that you are done with it ?
