Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Send it to Oregon, I have nothing to work on and driving my wife nuts wanting to buy another project. She says sell one to fund the next....I just can't!

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
A little headway last night.
Master Cylinder bench bled. Truck jacked up and on jack stands. Master cylinder installed and I double flared a couple small sections of brake line!! |

Bit by bit, Coach. Bit by bit.
You know how you know you've got a cool truck? Yours looks good with the wheels not even touching the ground! Lol. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Plugging along!!
Brake light, tail light and blinker wiring ran to back of truck. Front end completely greased and cotter keyed. Brake lines ran. Started the bleeding process and am having a heck of a time with the prop valve tripping. I am just going to order the tool to keep it centered and some speed bleeders to ease the process |

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Last nights progress.
Drivers side front shock is mounted. Peal and sealed the roof in the cab. Got a good game plan for building my rear shackle mounts which I hope to work on today after work!! |

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Short night last night as well..
Verified my temp gauge was working. All seems OK. Little 216 just takes awhile to get warm enough to move the gauge!! Starting stripping the doors down and prepping for a EZ latch install. Got the drivers side 90% done. What a great product!! http://www.triquemfg.com/Altman-Easy...ck-p/ael07.htm |

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
And the rear suspension is finally finished!!!
Got some time this week to weld up some rear shackle mounts and welded them on Henry yesterday after work. I also welded on some square tubing for my bed mounts. Goal for the weekend. Get this baby off the jack stands and on the ground and get the bed mounted. |

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Looks good, BUT...I gotta ask:
1. Why go to the trouble; why didn't you use the original shackle mounts? 2. Will those "L" mounts withstand the torsion they're gonna see or should you put triangular gusset plates on them? 3. Installing them there moves the leaf springs CLOSER to the tire, thus limiting the width tire you can use. (Or maybe that's of no issue cause you're sticking with narrow, original sized rubber?) Sorry to sound like a critic. The work looks first class to me and maybe you explained elsewhere in the thread why this was necessary and I just missed it(?) Posted via Mobile Device |

I may have overlooked the load on them. Rookie builder mistake. I think I have a solution.....I will post some pictures later. I have 235/70-15's mounted and they are not even close to the springs. Plenty of room. No problem critiqueing my work...........I am just learnin |

Thanks Coach. I didn't mean to come off sounding like a 'hole.
Your work looks a LOT better than someone "just learnin" to me. I couldn't do it....add it to the list of things I can't do yet. lol. |

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Dan, the 3600 frames are 10 inches narrower than a 1/2 ton AD or TF truck. That may be throwing off the tire to leaf thing you are wondering about.

I just didn't want to see Coach get it all dialed-in only to have stress cracks (or worse!) after he got it back down on its wheels. I meant to be helpful but when I went back and re-read it I thought I sounded critical. The LAST thing I'm qualified to be of anyone else's fab work. I wonder WHY the bigger trucks have a narrower frame? My only idea is the same frame served double duty as the frame for a dually A.D. back when they were new?? |

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
This weekends achievements:
Drivers door latch is done inside and out. Weather stripping also done. So impressed with the Altman kit. Easy to install and the doors latch so nice. Bed is installed and loose bolted along with passenger side fender and splash guard between running board and bed. Fiddled around tonight putting the seats bases in and cleaning up stuff. Spent some time with my 1 year old on my lap making motor noises and trying to honk the horn. Life is good!! |
