It's good to know I'm not the only one who has had a leaking plug weld.

Unboxed my new front grille and admired it. Kind of a cheap-looking stamping. Oh, well, at least it's shiny.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I was able to source a new clutch for my 4 seizens #58098 A/C compressor from UAC and, for anyone else who ever needs one, the part number is CL 1654C. I installed it yesterday but saved installing the belt for this cool morning. I had thought a bit about why the previous clutch failed and suspect low voltage at idle caused the clutch to slip and burn everything up as it failed just after sitting at a long red light. I added a fused Bosch relay to feed the clutch coil directly from the battery which should cure/prevent that.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Got stuck with the 72 . I have been pushing not replacing the flex plate . Today the dreaded whine of the bendix spinning on the ring gear . I managed to get a tire iron into the gear and spun the flex plate about 25 degrees . Truck started right up but with the usual grinding noise

My truck cover was delivered to keep the C10 from getting dusty.
Fitment is very good with added mirror pockets.
No cut out for the aerial though, so I just unscrew the antenna.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

236 miles on my truck so I did a oil service. Sort of kidding, the engine is low mile but not THAT LOW, but I did do a few things to it, and it sat six years before the 236 miles. New oil sat with it for 1/2 that, so kind of figured it was due and how nice to do an oil change on a restoration.

I lubed the suspension and steering as well, they were due for certain. Can't get much grease into new parts, but after some miles they'll take it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

New starter, pos batt cable, purple(now blue) installed. Have HEI, no yellow wire.
Motor oil and filter.
Filled radiator.
Filled tranny.
Cleaned, gapped, odd side plugs. All plugs will get R&Red once it gets running.

Need to get a new Skip White dizzy cap and rotor.

To do list is getting shorter.
Im happy...Don.

Bought it from Rock Auto a few years ago. Application is for a 1972 Z28 Camaro and it fits my Q Jet perfectly.

Does it have the heat tube valve on the left snorkel?

Nope, you probably need that hooked up in California.

Probably, but I'll buy one like yours anyway. The heat tube has never been on the truck in the 42 years that I've known of it.

Had some funny noises coming from the drive train on the '72 Dually. I thought it was a front wheel bearing. It's hard for me to tell where noises like that are coming from with my bad hearing. I had an ex-mechanic friend of mine go for a ride with me to see what he thought about it. He said he thought I had a flat tire on the passengers side rear and I had a clicking noise coming from the same area. The outside dual tire was indeed low on air so I aired it up and checked the inside tire. It was completely flat. I thought what the heck is going on here.... I got to checking closer and both of the valve stems were cracked down by the rim. I removed the wheels and tires and took them to my local tire shop and had them put new valve stems in them. The guy that fixed them said it looked like I picked something up between the duals and it rattled around inside enough to break both of the valve stems. Just my luck. There wasn't anything there when I took them off.

When I had the wheels off I turned the drum and I could hear something rattling around inside the drum. OK, now I'm going to have to pull the axle and hub/drum assembly off to see what that is. I found that the adjuster spring had broken and the adjuster had dropped out of place and broke some of the other parts and pieces. Luckily I had a pair of new shoes for it so I just had to scrounge up some small parts. I didn't have an H072 adjuster assembly or the spring for it. All of mine are too small so I will have to see if I can find those on the parts board.

Seems like it is always something. I guess I'm lucky it didn't lock up on me....

^ Lucky nothing worse happened, Leon!

Put the new grille in my truck over the weekend. Old and new, for comparison. Much better! Next up is paint and install the headlight bezels. Thanks to @Richard for the insert!
