Re: Project Goldilocks, '66 C10 SWB BBW Build
yeah, they seem a little extreme...I'd just hate to wreck wearing shorts or no shoes, not to mention helmet (which I noticed one guy had). I don't mind living a little on the edge, but ya gotta be smart about it too just in case something goes wrong.

Re: Project Goldilocks, '66 C10 SWB BBW Build
like your pops old vw. may only do 55 but he's styling all the way.
the trikes are over the top. look way too dangerous but then i'm of the steel wheel skateboard generation and the edge back then was much softer. excellent work on the cluster. thanks, its a great guide for us all |

Re: Project Goldilocks, '66 C10 SWB BBW Build
I liked the trike video not something I would do now at my age, but if I was 18 again watch out. I had a 61 VW bug w/36er it would do an honest 65 but it had to be slightly down hill with a tail wind, cool build by the way...Vernski

I would still do it even at my age.

Love the attention to detail on the gauges, I'm definitely going to use this for reference for my gauges. Like the 55 and the trike too. I've been wanting a trike like that for a couple of weeks now.

Re: Project Goldilocks, '66 C10 SWB BBW Build
In the pic of your shed, I noticed the trikes and I ran across the trike drifting video on Youtube a couple of weeks ago I think, but it didn't cross my mind that those were them!
Looks like way too much fun! Just watch the head to curb situation when you run out of turn. Wouldn't want you to go the way of Gary Busey! |

PS
I'm not going to be surprised to see Edelbrock or someone else start marketing Chevy script covers for LS motors in the future now that you've given them the idea! |

Re: Project Goldilocks, '66 C10 SWB BBW Build
Thanks for the comments dudes! Ill have to shoot some vids of us out on the trikes once it warms up! I set the cab back on the frame after work today and took better pics of the floor and rust situation. I'll have to pop the rockers off to fix the inner door pillars up front.
And the floor. Pretty good shape except around the kick panels. Posted via Mobile Device

Those areas should be an easy fix for a trike driftin' pro like you.

If I hadn't broke my foot I'd be building one right now. I even found some starter frames on CL for cheap.
I see the foot dr. tomorrow. cast or no cast. You do great work. Keep it up. |

Re: Project Goldilocks, '66 C10 SWB BBW Build
[QUOTE=theastronaut;5863688]Off topic, but if you're wondering what the two "tricycles" in the shed are, they're drift trikes. The rear tires are sleeved with PVC tubing for decreased grip so they slide through corners. I build the green one from a 20" mountain bike last year. I'm going to add decals from a John Deere pedal tractor to complete the look.
I'm almost 50yrs old and I want one! I still like to tear it up with the young uns....It keeps me young at heart, I guess.

Re: Project Goldilocks, '66 C10 SWB BBW Build
I got the engine and trans stuck in the frame to check for clearances. Looks like the floor and firewall will clear just fine!
Getting ready to stuff it in. Pretty wild that the manifolds came off easily with a 1/4" ratchet! And set in place. The 5.3 pan will have to go, will be replaced by a F-body pan for more ground clearance. The crossmember will have to be notched too if I run the engine this low, plus I want to raise the crossmember atleast 1.5" so the A arms are at a better angle at ride height. Sits farther back than I thought it would. Almost the whole engine is behind the axle centerline- great for F/R weight distibution. And I couldn't resist throwing these in place, just because! I think I'll get a whole set of reproductions that have better idle progression circuits for better driveability. This pair is OG italian with only two progression ports so they don't have the best street manners.

Sorry, that's the only two carbs I have! Originally bought then for my VW stroker motor build. They're 48mm bore with 37mm venturies- too small for a V8. The new repops are available with 51mm bores and whatever size venturies are needed. 48's with 42mm vents flow around 340 cfm per barrel- not enough since each cylinder only has access to one barrel. This weeks updates- I worked out a trade for a F-body oil pan and pickup tube. A friend called and asked if I would be interested in painting the wheels on his Trans Am, and I jokingly said that if he found me an oil pan that I would. So he actually called around and found one in about ten minutes from one of his friends doing a LS1 swap into a 240Z! So next weekend he'll have blacked out wheels and Ill have a oil pan and a little cash to boot. I also ordered an Energy Suspension black urethane body mount kit that should come next week. Next on the list is to level the frame, mount the body, swap oil pans and finalize the engine placement, then start the crossmember raise. MalibuKasey and I have been planning out building our own tubular A-arms that fix the lack of needed castor and camber adjustment that stock arms have and also move the wheel forward to center the wheel in the fenderwell while we're at it. I'm also going to look into taller C20 upper ball joints that will increase camber gain through the suspension travel, and possibly drop the upper A-arm cross bar mount for even more camber gain if its needed.
