Re: Randy & Jakes 64 4x4 SLOW build

well I've been working on the ole truck for the past few weeks just plugging along, I got my fan pulleys and alternator on and hoses and radiator, been dealing the clutch ordeal, I was going to go with the hydraulic setup from Capt.Fab but a friend of mine said he had a set of shorty headers so I took off the long tube on the driver side and with some persuasion from a hammer and some minor frame trimming, she fit just fine and was able to use my original clutch linkages so she moves now..I took her up the road with open headers and Oh what a feeling, So I went to passenger side and attempted to install the shorty but after some frame trimming and hammer time on the header there's just no way it's going to work I would have to cut plum up into the motor mount where it bolt's to the frame and decided that was too much cutting, so I put the long tube back on there it might look odd buy hey the whole truck does...So will it really hurt it to run a long tube on one side and a shorty on the other....I'm going to do it anyway.....Ta Da...And no T.J. I didn't get to video tape it going up the road my son wasn't here to tape it....

Now 61K10 that's something I didn't think about I'll definitely have to assess that situation. It definitely felt good just to drive it again can't wait til I get the exhaust worked out to take it for a cruise...down the road...Thanks for the suggestion...

Re: Randy & Jakes 64 4x4 SLOW build

Well I'm going out there today and paint the grill surround, the inner part will be satin black and the outer surround will be white and the outer will be green just like they came from the factory.. But however this will be all rattle can so perfection is out of the question cause I'm not fixing any dings in it right now just trying to get it in some color other than the different shades it was, so anything is going to look better than it was and yes I will post pixs...I've got the driver side exhaust pretty much worked out other than some more welding. 10-4 over and out..

Sounds good! I plan on the same idea. Black back round, silver stripe around, and then blue.

Randy,

Sounds good, clicked the picture, is that an RV cam in the BB? Sounds like a little more!! My U-joint are way to small for all that torque, and my right foot problem.

Looking good. What are the header 2 1/8"?

Les I'm not sure what cam but it's a nice sounding, next time I see the gentlemen that I bought it from I'm going to ask him if he knows who built it.
He just told me new cam new pistons so I assume it's been gone through.. And yes I'll have to watch my foot too or I'll be replacing parts... as for the headers there 3" down to 2 1/2 collector...

Re: Randy & Jakes 64 4x4 SLOW build

I hear ya Kimble, you know what it's your truck so do what ever you like cause it's yours..
that's what I say, you know you have people say I would have did it this way or that way, but I say do your own thang..If you like then that's mighty fine mighty fine.. It would be kinda boring if everybody had the same paint jobs or mods.. Were having the rainy season here this week and into the weekend so It'll be slow go this week.. I'll be sooooo glad to get the front end back together as in getting the front bumper mounted and paint the front fenders and the cowl panels after I get them sanded. one piece at a time...she'll be a 20 footer.. till I can get my own shop then spray it all at one time...

Re: Randy & Jakes 64 4x4 SLOW build

We do with what we have to work with. My tk looks great in the sun or at night. In certain shadows it shows all the waves in the bed sides and a couple in the doors. This is partly do to color sanding and buffing to a hi gloss. After i put color on it i should of blocked it again to show the defects and then recolored. As they call it hind sight i guess.

Re: Randy & Jakes 64 4x4 SLOW build

Well got out there today and sand blasted my grill and painted it. I even got some new headlight adjusters, needed those really bad as one of them wanted to point down.. Hopefully by tomorrow It'll be dry enough to put headlights back in and mount it back on truck...

Re: Randy & Jakes 64 4x4 SLOW build

well I got her mounted, Hmm that didn't sound right LOL??? I was going to paint the letters black on my grill but My son Jake said why don't you paint them with the green your going with so I did it looks ok, I just free handed with a small brush but would look better maybe with some vinyl stickers, because I didn't mask them off...Anywho like I said she's a 20 footer...My hats off to you guys that do show quality work....

next I have to align everything back up and tighten everything down and maybe start on the fenders or sand some more of the other panels...I have to build my wifey a ramp she has bad knees and can't do steps and I plan on using the ole truck to haul my lumber cause that's what I got her for... to use as a truck...Coot coot...And yes I know that I have a dent or the lower left panel is pushed back I tried to straighten it with some big ole pliers maybe with some heat would have helped, but with all the bends it pretty tough in that part it won't be as noticeable with the bumper back on...

Re: Randy & Jakes 64 4x4 SLOW build

Hmm makes me wonder after painting the grill white all that white wonder how it would look if the center part was painted either the green truck color or silver...but I really don't want to take it back off to see...just a thought...

Re: Randy & Jakes 64 4x4 SLOW build

Now Randy why'd you have to say that, cause I'm wondering, I could tape it off and put some cardboard down behind so no over spray, and paint half green and the other half silver and then compare and whatever looks the best go with that...Thanks for the idea..
