Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...

The shock towers didn't fully blend with the inners. I made this filler piece to improve the overall integration:

Here's how it sits now. Need to make a few patch/filler panels for the DS and then on to the crossmember...

The work looks great as always, but I'm sorry. I have to comment on the outside yard shots. Cripes is it summer there already?

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...

awesome work as usual , it does look nice and warm out there over here theres snow on the ground and temperatures near and below freesing

back on the oilfillercap idea , the cap i showed you prolly wouldnt fit its a barionet fitting like a radiatorcap i remembered the cap on that engine screws on .
you might be able to cover it up with kindoff a jar lid shaped aloy/chromed piece gleued over the original cap just turn the top smaller and stick the metal over it ,
you might be able to use some aftermarked masterbrakecylindercanistercap (hmmm nice scrabbleword there) for it

Looking great. Really like the extra filler piece and time to make it "right"

To quote a line from the movie 'Sex Drive': "Not bad, I've seen better" j/k of course

Curious though, are you going to paint the engine bay to match the exterior's original paint or is the entire car gonna get reshot?

Also how do you keep down flash? Or do you grind it off before every update?

Thanks

It's been in the 50's. The constant cloud cover keeps the temps up.

I like it. I was thinking along the same lines; find one I like and adapt it to the plastic one.

Once the idea presents itself I have no choice but to comply! Did I mention that working under that fender overhang is a serious PITA? Well, if not, IT IS!!! But worth it...

I will paint the bay to match the car. Don't plan to shoot the whole car (for now). We must have lower humidity because flash is not an issue.

Finish DS, front xmember, engine mounts, trans mounts, driveshaft, firewall/tunnel, control arms, steering, rear coilover mounts, fuel tank, fuel lines, wiring, start engine, heater install, rear brakes, brake lines, ebrake, disassemble/paint, reassemble, drive!

There's more and it probably won't follow that order exactly but that's the bulk of if.

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...

Back from Austin Tx. Thought I'd get to soak up a little sun down there and it f'n snowed while I was there!

I want to give a big thanks to Anthony Crivelli of Melbourne Australia for his extremely well-crafted write up on the project at Speedhunters.com. You can see more form him on speedhunters and his blog

Progress Update:
DS Frame/Shock-tower is in. The "filler piece" for behind the shock tower is made and tacked in. Running out of gas for the welder ...I'll have to come back to finish that later.

On to the xmember now! Got the DS tie rod jig done last night. So now I can cut the center out of the S2000 xmember, plate it and add my tube laterals. Then it's time for engine/trans mounts and control arms

For you pic hounds, here another item on it's way to the shop:

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...

When we last left off the DS shock tower had some air leaks left to be plugged ...so:

add the filler piece to make it flow (final welding/grinding done later):

On to the suspension crossmember. Got the DS tie-rod position jig'ed up like the PS (not shown) after mounting the rack on the stock xmember one last time:

...and lightened the crossmember (a little bandsaw action):

This is all I need from the Honda piece to mount the arms to the frame. The rest will be fab'ed.

xmember ends plated:

other side:

Installed.

Just need to build the lateral connections now. But in order to do that, first I had to do this:

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...

guys, thanks...

Been working a TON of OT again but I'll get the xmember laterals bent up and melted in this week. Then it's motor/trans mount time Once that's done I can order the drive shaft and bend up some control arms.

Funny you mention tubby. I have been avoiding cannibalizing projects ...until yesterday. Stole a u-joint and DD shaft for the DriftBeam steering from tubby's parts pile Ordering replacements now...
