Re: Dumptruck Dolly
Another easy way dealing with that pesky zbar and headers is to undue the motor mount bolts pick up slightly with an engine hoist and assemble zbar and slowly drop back down
Nice work |

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
Exactly...that was an option. I do think the rivot removal was the easiest option for me. Thanks for tuning in. 👍

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
Now the ‘71 Power Steering is connected to the ‘68 front axle. The reason I couldn’t make it work before was because the front end was so far out of alignment. Once I ball parked the alignment better, turning left and right worked out.
I also took the steering wheel from the donor Blue Beast and put it on Dolly. I like it. Last edited by fishnixon; 02-26-2021 at 06:28 PM. |

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
I am cleaning up the engine bay before mounting the front clip. Here I used a liquid hand soap and a scotch brite to degrease all the black surfaces, gave it a rinse, and then “wet sanded” with a new scotch brite to rough up the surface prior to painting. Now I’m waiting for it to dry. I’ll be using a hammered finish.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
Dressed up the fender wells with the Hammered Black paint. I love this stuff. It looks good and does a pretty good job hiding some imperfections. I like to call it “ unobtainium”, the dirty first cousin of titanium.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
I had to open up the radiator support mounts to fit the aftermarket rubber bushings. Here my son Trevor is finishing up.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
Here’s a few pics of the front clip back where it belongs. I couldn’t have done it without my brother, Terry (pictured) and of course my son, Trevor. It feels good to get to this phase.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
One good thing about finding this so late in the build is most of the waiting is over, can’t wait to see dolly finished. And please give finely some belly rubs for me.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
I am going to fab up a radiator cover. I found this left over lower rear quarter panel from a previous project. The bend is right where I need it (@ 5”).
