anyone used expanding foam in there cab ???

Since I just Happen to work at Dow Automotive and We manufacture the foam used by the auto industry and marketed by other companies. I will get some tech data

Use Lizard Skin spray it on and then spray on it if ya want or cover it up.

Takes care of sound and vibrations as well, and drys in about an hour and 1/2.

And they make some that has ceramic mix for heat as well.

Planning on using it on my burban once I get ready to strip it out.

Coops, I gotcha! Ya prep is going to be important. GM probably dipped the cab or something. The only access I see is through the bed or cab light mounts. If it doesnt get sealed proper, the metal will probably sweat and hold the moisture... good luck and keep us posted.

Another option is Lizard Skin.

I know you seem pretty set on doing this, but I have to agree with N2TRUX on the Lizard Skin. You can spray it on, then sand it smooth and paint right over it so you can't see it.

The thought of it potentially breaking down and coming off a non-prepped surface sounds like a bigger hassle than what the rewards are of doing it in the first place.

Tubbed, to my understanding Coops wants to spray inside the roof panels.

Well my headliner is gone on mine and metal is all I see all the way back to the rear a/c unit, and as for the area around the visor ... it is a liquid so it should cover well.

I didnt think of that...Subs have single skin and trucks dual panel. He wants to fill the void with closed cell, non expanding foam.

Wasn't thinking about a burb I forgot they only have single panel roof.. if i were doing a burb I would dynamat it and intstall a nice headliner

does anyone remember a rust product called OSPHO ? I used that stuff alot but havent seen it in awhile that would be a great metal prep for my project

Eastwood sells a product called Oxy-solv that you spray on bare metal and it forms a galvanized-like coating. I don't recall how much it is, but it comes in a spray bottle and you can paint over it, but you need to use a self-etching primer before paint. I used it on the floor of my truck probably 6-7 years ago when I discovered some scaly surface rust under the rubber floor mat. I haven't looked at it since I did it, I wonder how it looks now?

Ok guys here is a update after LOTS and LOTS of research I have come to the conclusion that NO ONE makes a closed cell non expanding foam that does not require alot of prep so with more research I have found a product that will work GREAT it is from a company called WURTH it is similar to lizard skin and line x but its ALOT cheaper its call stoneguard and is used by body shops and restoration pro's it can be sprayed.rolled brushed or just poured on or in
so were going to try it our plan is to turn the cab upside down and pour it in through the A and B pillars we are going to use a "snake cam" that is used by plummers to look in sewer lines to look in the cab and insure coverage once we have the roof coated we will spray it in the A and B pillars, interior light hole and cab light holes
Ill let ya know how it comes out

Wow, That's a lotta work to quiet it down. It would be interesting to note the difference by taking a decible meter reading before and after.

I think I'd almost try a foam padded type of head liner and sound deadening liner inside the doors and on the floor.

I am going to insulate the doors,floor,firewall,behind the gas tank, yes its a lot of effort BUT I plan on driving this truck the rest of my life

I was tempted....but chose rubberized under coating instead....besides...where are you going to do it? You'd never get the full effect from it.

what do ya mean "where are you going to do it " im going to put it in between the roof and cab panels ? why wont I get the full effect ??? should get the same effect as using it anywhere else . all I can say to all of you "naysayers" is stand back and watch when I get done my cab will be as quiet as a MODERN truck

This should be interesting to see. My thoughts on this is it should quiet it down, help prevent rust if the prep is done right, and help insulate from heat better

Has anyone tried to use the insta-foam packing that Uline sells? It comes in a bag, and should not absorb moisture. It may trap moisture between the bag, and the sheetmetal, but maybe that could be taken care of with some spray-in prep.

That stuff is a NO NO as far as I am concerned Ive seen guys use it and all it does is hold moisture and make the metal rust Good friend of mine works at a body shop they painted a 69 camaro less than 3 years the guy was back with rust coming thru the B pillars and he asked them what they did so they did a little checking poked thru the rusty metal and it was full of that foam they asked the guy if he new it and he said yes he put it in there I seen the pics it was UGLY
