Re: Finding my dad's 1968 GMC
I've posted it in every single classic Chevy/GMC truck group I could possibly find! And still nothing. I've posted in the only Texas group I know of, SWEET RIDES of Central Texas. I can't seem to find more.

Re: Finding my dad's 1968 GMC
I added it to the Hot Rod Power Tour page since there are so many members from texas going this year (most of it runs through TX this June). They have 13K+ members

Re: Finding my dad's 1968 GMC
Thank you very much! Looking forward to that pm. I hope this is it - getting antsy, ha ha. Now the questions of "will they sell it for a reasonable price and is it all still close to original" will hopefully be answered.

Re: Finding my dad's 1968 GMC
Well, found him on facebook - sent a message, not sure if he'll see it or not. Totally gonna sound weird, but I might contact the family he has listed and see if anything comes out of it.
I just want my dad's truck back. Though, just because it was my dad's, and I lost him last year, does not mean that they will sell it to me. Trying to find that balance of "it could happen" and "it might not happen". |

Re: Finding my dad's 1968 GMC
I was lucky, my mom kept dad's truck when he passed and finally gave it to me years ago. It never left the family. I know how much it means to you. Good luck

Re: Finding my dad's 1968 GMC
Now to start the big thing - getting the Gran Torino listed for sale. Well, "it's for sale only if this happens" for sale LOL. I already got a couple people interested.
all I know is that if this happens, it'll be a fun as hell drive all the way from south Texas back to Kansas City. I hope the radio still works (it was an 8-track player when we had it). I still got my Van Halen 8-tracks I need to listen to!!! ....also gonna need to set money aside for gas money. |

Re: Finding my dad's 1968 GMC
Your story is identical to mine! Dad passed from cancer and wanted to find 68 that great grandpa purchased new and passed down through the generations. Found vin number on old insurance papers, gave vin to friend thats a police officer. Then found them on facebook and wrote several messages with no response over a month or so. Then wrote the wife (stalker status) with no response. Finally hand wrote a letter and mailed it to them and got a phone call back a few days later and we worked something out and i now have the truck back in the family. Good luck to you!

If I do end up buying the truck, I may take his urn with me, however weird that may be. We were planning a good road trip in his 2011 392 hemi Challenger right before he got diagnosed and became bed-ridden - this way I can have that last roadtrip with him. |

Letter with pictures and what I'm looking to do, and the story behind the truck, has been delivered. Time to play the waiting game.

Scratch that - letter came back as undeliverable. Well now. They still haven't seen my facebook messages. Time to figure out how else I may get in contact with them, if the address isn't mailable.

Re: Finding my dad's 1968 GMC
I hope you find your Dad's truck. I know how much it would mean to me. Whatever you do, don't give up. I have a '94 S10 I bought new in '93. She is about worn out. Still drive her from time to time, but can't bring myself to let her go. Gotta save her for my son.
