My wife is ready to smack you soba. I got the drop coils in today and tried to put the spindles on, but I am having issues. I will get it figured out.

Re: 66 slammed hearse

Well I got alot done this weekend on the burb, Dropped it 5" in the back and 3" in the front. It will go down 2.5" more when I get new drop spindles. Rewired the tail lights and got them working, fixed the brake lights and turn signals. Rewired the wipers, and mounted the booster. Also got some new brake lines bent up to replumb the new disc brakes, but the parts house didnt have everything I needed, so it will wait till I get more time. heres some pics.

Re: 66 slammed hearse

Moog never got back with me, so I cut my loses and just bought the right ones. I am a motivated cripple, I cant sit anymore. I am going crazy sitting around. The knee is doing good as long as I dont work on my junk. It gets chevy sore after a day like yesterday.

Re: 66 slammed hearse

I am going to F***** scream! I have had it with parts that are overpriced and dont fit! I bought a new set of spindles for the rustburban, $250 bucks worth and guess what.....not even close to fitting! now the ball joint bores are to small and the steering bore is to big. I even talked to the company on the phone and told them what they were going on, what rotors and calipers I was using. still they show up and dont fit! how hard is it to get the right part for the application? There has to be a 2.5 drop spindle that bolts on to a 65 c-10 suburban with no problems. Let me say that, Soba_03 is in the clear on this one because the first spindle problem was my fault and he went out of his way to help me solve it. The company I purchased from will remain nameless until I figure out how they will handle it. Sorry for venting here, but I wanted to take this rust wagon to the carshow this weekend and do some dis-burban of the peace.

Are you using the '65 ball joints and tie rod ends?

Re: 66 slammed hearse

I don't know if this would solve any of your issues, but IIRC the '73-'87 ball joints should fit the '65 arms. Are you going to convert to PS? If so then just swap the whole draglink and tie rod end assembly for the '73-'87 parts. If you need a PS box bracket let me know.

Re: 66 slammed hearse

that may be worth a try, will the outer tierods work with the 65 inners? I will be getting your PS adapter when I have more money to dump into this POS.

Hey Derric, I am pretty sure that disc brake drop spindles use 73-87 ball joints.

I don't know for sure I've never attempted it, I usually just swap the entire steering linkage. I can check it out tomorrow at the shop and let you know if that is possible. IIRC somewhere in the '63-'66 era they changed the length of the TRE's also.

Re: 66 slammed hearse

i think you have to use the '65 outers as inners and get an adapter from fatman fab to use the '73-up outers, iirc

Re: 66 slammed hearse

Spindle update, The rotors I am using are 71 up bearing style and thickness, Hence the reason I got the parts that I did. So to use this style I have to change all 4 ball joints to 73-87, which I am told will fit with no mods, and the outer tierod ends, which will fit with a fancy adapter kit. I also might add that the rear side windows DO NOT fit in the front side window holes. GRRRRRR! more money I have to spend. I need solid front side glass, anyone got any or know where to find some on the cheap? So no carshow for KD's DIS-BURBAN saturday. Maybe next time. I got my parts Soba_03, thank man.

Re: 66 slammed hearse

I did some measuring today and it doesn't look like the later ('73-'87) TRE's will fit the earlier adjuster sleeves....they're just a little bigger. What about changing the whole steering linkage as I mentioned before? Or are they not as plentiful down in your area as they are up here? I think I should have an extra set or two....PM me if you're interested....should be able to work something out.

Looks good... Bout time... Kinda draggin your A** on this project.....LMFAO..

Congrats....find a set of v8 springs for the front it will drop it just a bit lower in the front. I believe that the I6 spring are actually heavier than the v8 so the v8 springs mights give it a slightly lower ride on the Front. Just a thought though.....

Well I like to take my time ya know, I cant wait on dumb things like knee surgery to stand in the way of progress. lol

It has CPP 3" lowering springs up front and 5" in back, I think it will settle abit after its on the road. I have considered a visor, but not sure yet. After I get the windows paneled I will have a better idea of the look I want. I have to get it to steer and stop first.

Minor Details.....I've only seen one with a visor and it was a picture. I have searched high and low for a visor and not joy. So you'll have to fab one. Shouldn't be tough on that year. Mine has wrap around windshield a bit more tricky haven't figured a way to attach the sides so it wouldn't flap in the breeze ya know... I'm telling ya dual carbs and split manifolds...Thats the ticket.......Looks good...Least ya didn't say that reason it's been taking so long it you were waiting on brake parts.......LOL

Re: 66 slammed hearse

LOL your fab skills are pretty good?... I'm looking at your truck and I was just thinking... easy to do when it's not your...LOL

How about something like a cowl induction hood... like the old Chevelles? I may have to search around a bit not sure if anything is repo like that...

Again great job on getting it to this point... I'm sure that the knee is slowing you down .....

Re: 66 slammed hearse

OH I found one and they would be HAPPY to sell it ....$495

This is a 4" cowl hood and I'm not thinking this drastic maybe a 2" or something like it...
