The KE 10704 shows that it was a 4x4 short wb stepside.

Looks like you got the protec-o-plate too. It is pretty rare to still have those.

Yep, original owners manual and protec-o-plate with all warranty documents.

You guys are jealous? Well think about me. My wife keeps calling it "MY TRUCK" as in hers and not mine. LOL..... I'll give you three guesses who will be doing all the work on it though.. Oh well... Happy Wife, Happy Life....

I'm jealous too. I am plotting and planning on how to get me one. Dump my dodge, sell my big block. There has got to be a way.

I think your wife is right, a truck that rare and complete should get restored.

Re: New baby has arrived

Really cool to see that truck. Take good care of it but do enjoy it - that's what they are for.

Keep us posted on what you do to your (er, I mean your wife's) truck.

Re: New baby has arrived

The truck is ultra complete, but in need of some serious TLC, which I will proudly give it. The motor has 200k+ on it, and when I opened the hood, I was shocked to see at least an inch of crust coating the heads, block, valve covers, etc.... However, you cannot engage the starter without it starting. Just a click and it fires right up even cold. Also, there is non of the telltale blue smoke. None at all. So I figure, fix the exhaust leaks and run it. The darn things runs GREAT.

Other stuff is badly in need of attention.. Dash pad, and seat covers are hammered, floor has some funky carpet on it, wood in the bed is rotted all to heck with holes. These things I will do first, along with getting some tires on it. It has those white spoke steel wheels on it which I'll probably keep for now, using the money for the other things listed first.

Thanks for all the great feedback. I can't tell you how happy I am to have found this site. What a goldmine of information, and a darn nice bunch of folks as well.

Re: New baby has arrived

I thought the SPID had to say "Cheyenne" and not "Custom Sport Truck"? Nice truck I do like stepsides and its a 4x4!

I don't know the answer to that. I know a few things. This truck has been in the family since 1973. My father in law bought it from the original owner then with 30k on it. It had never been wrecked, but had a few dings in it. I do not believe it was modified by the original owner. It has the Cheyenne badges on it, as well as the parchment scrolled interior. What other tell-tale things could I look for?

I believe in my heart that is is original except for a couple of things. One is a set of headers my father in law put on it. Another is the after market mirrors which he also put on it.

Is it possible that the SPID says "custom sport truck", but the Cheyenne badges are original? I really do not know, but would love to find out.

Oh, and I almost forgot. My father in law cut some of the grill out to make room for his amber fog lights.

Re: New baby has arrived

another strange thing, is when I look up the production numbers on this site, the model number KE10704 shows up in 68 and 69, but not 71

Re: New baby has arrived

CST is the equivalent of Cheyenne - maybe it was made early in the year or something.

Re: New baby has arrived

It does have the cargo light in the back indicating a factory Cheyenne truck option. Maybe it was an early model production and thus the SPID custom sport truck list. Anyway, nice truck and enjoy. I can't find a nice 4x4 stepside they are kind of rare.

Re: New baby has arrived

GM did some strange stuff back then,

Most or aleast alot of the 71 Cheyenne's still called it a custom sport truck on the SPID. I think some of the "supers" were called CST too, which is really wierd.

GMC listed their sierra grande as a cheyenne super alot of the time too.

Don't worry 71RULES, your truck is absolutely correct.
