New baby has arrived
Well, it's HERE!! I'm so excited. It's in great shape considering the 200,000 or so miles it's seen. The previous owner, my Father-in-law took good care of it, but he used it for a truck. I however expect the near future to hold much more for this beauty.
Here are the first pictures at it's new home. Last edited by 71RULES!; 07-23-2008 at 11:21 PM. |

Re: New baby has arrived
Well, as far as plans go, I would love to jack it up high and put some swampers on it.
However the reality is that this is my wife's truck, and she can have it the way that makes her happy. So far, she is leaning to restoring it to stock factory condition, right down to the tires and wheels. Either way, I've got some work ahead of me for sure. I have my own 71 project vehicle to dictate what happens on. It's a Chevelle SS "clone". We are hoping to put it on a trailer, and tow it around with this truck. Her truck is a Cheyenne in Chevy Orange with Parchment interior. Interior needs dash-pad, floor mat, and seat re-upholstered. Other than that, it's in great shape. I think it needs a steering wheel too. The body has minor dings, and some rust in the usual places, but it's very minor compared to many I've seen. I'll do the body work myself. The wood in the bed is badly in need of replacing, but the metal is very good. There are several sets of holes in the doors where various mirrors have been placed over the years. I'll fix those and put stock ones on. It's one heck of a lot more complete than my Chevelle was when I got it thank goodness. |

Re: New baby has arrived
I thought those looked like Cheyenne emblems. A factory Cheyenne stepside is pretty uncommon. I have only seen like one other one and it was a "super". If you get a chance, do you mind posting a pic of the spid, option sticker, on the glove box door.

What is the spid? Is that the plate on the door jam? If so, is it normal and safe to post things like this? I mean, pardon my ignorance, but do I need to consider personally identifiable information? Or when you say spid, are you referring to that option sticker on the glove box door? Sorry for the confusion. thanks in advance Last edited by 71RULES!; 07-23-2008 at 05:29 PM. Re: New baby has arrived
The spid is the sticker on the inside of the glovebox door, it has all the details as to what the truck came with from factory. Has the colors and such.

Great looking truck! You can blank out the VIN# on the SPID if you're worried.

Re: New baby has arrived
Ok, here is the spid. I'd be interested in what anyone could tell me about it other than the obvious listed. Like the model #. Is there a decoder for that?
Also, check out the other original documents from the glove box. And get a load of those parchment door panels. SWEET |

Re: New baby has arrived
LOL.. yeah, her dad had it in NE, but it's originally a California rig. I guess I should have blocked out the license plates eh? Oh well
update: I went back an edited the images. No need in posting personal information. Not that I think something bad would happen, but why take the chance I guess. Last edited by 71RULES!; 07-23-2008 at 11:29 PM. |

Re: New baby has arrived
It's my wife's truck.
Yesterday I call it "her", and she said "ITS NOT A HER, ITS A HE!" LOL I guess I'll wait and see if HE gets a name. HAHAHA I love this truck so much, I want to get rid of my 01 Dodge Cummins and get an old K20 to replace it. I have a 6000 lb boat I have to tow, so that's why I got the Cummins. It really pulls loads easily, but... well.... DAMIT... It's just not a Chevy... I need to dump it. |

Re: New baby has arrived
I'm thinking it is very rare. My father in law has owned it since 1973. He has looked at EVERY truck to see if he could find another one. So for 35 years of trying, he has come up with a big fat zero. He has see a couple of step 4x4s in 71, but never a Cheyenne packaged one.
I don't know if there is a way to determine how many were made. Only 1438 of the short step 1/2 ton 4x4s, but how about that in a Cheyenne package? I'll bet it's a small percentage of the 1438. And then, now many are left? I wish I knew. No matter what it is worth, my wife will never sell it. She grew up riding with her dad in this truck, offroading in northern California. Lots of childhood memories. I am glad he kept it in a barn while it was parked in Nebraska, and took pretty fair care of it since 1973. He said the few dents that are on it were there when he bought it. I WANT MY OWN!!!! Last edited by 71RULES!; 07-24-2008 at 12:15 AM. |

Re: New baby has arrived
there is no productio9n numbers of option packages, only model numbers... so you already did all the research you can.
