Re: Am I crazy? lol

Well guys phase one has begun--parts collection lol. I found out from the Early Classics guys that the 67-68 GMC radiator supports arent re-produced....but it just so happened that they had one laying around. She needs a little work but the guys gave me a great deal on a hard to find part and it will clean up nicely(needs a little patch work). (also side note....The ECE guys are Top Notch, and there customer service is awsome...they earned a longtime customer in me and i recommend them).

Question 1-
Will my 70 front bumper still work?
Question 2-
Is the 67-68 gmc grille identical other then the fact the 68 doesnt have the GMC letters on it?

Re: Am I crazy? lol

your bumper should be fine
the grill is the same 67 - 70 with the exception of the GMC embossed in the center of the 67.

Re: Am I crazy? lol

Will everything swap from a '68-'70? hood, fenders, grill, core support, etc.? I like the look of the '70, and I am kicking around the idea of swapping the clip on my '68. If it is a direct bolt-in, and there is no rust involved, maybe we could trade.

Re: Am I crazy? lol

67-68s are interchangible.
69-72s etc.
entire front clips will swap no problem but you cant mix and match 70 with 67 stuff. Seing as how i am in Iraq still my Conversion wont happen till next summer

GMC-- Get's More Chicks. Good decision.
The Chevy bumper will work fine. The only diference is that the GMC bumpers have small dips in them to clear the parking lamps. I have a Chevy bumper, and I think it looks ok. If you don't know what you are looking for, you'll never notice it.

Re: Am I crazy? lol

In 67 and 68, the front bumper did not have the clearance "dips" for the turn signals. That started in 69. A 67/68 GMC bumper is the same as the 67-70 Chevy bumper, as are the outer bumper brackets.

Don't forget the 67/68 GMC hood latch. I'm currently looking for one too.

You're late to the party, but welcome. We've been doing this for some time now. The blue truck on the left is a 72 GMC with a 67 nose, the one on the right is a 70 Chevy with a 68 nose (and 67 "Custom" fender badges). Currently converting a 67 2wd Chevy to a 67 GMC

Re: Am I crazy? lol

Not to high jack this thread, but what is the difference between the 67-72 GMC front ends? I thought the core support and fenders where the same between 67 thru 72 GMC excet for the 67 not having park lights. Am I confused to think that the only GMC differance was the front grill sheetmetal and hood latch?

The hood is different on 67/68. It is the same hood as used on 67/68 Chevys. If you look at the painted top bar on a 67/68 grille grille is is not as tall as the chrome one found on 69-72 GMC grilles.

67 hoods had no GMC hood letters, 68's did. 68 GMC's had the fender eybrows and hood trim as their 68 Chevy cousins had. 67 GMCs have no fender eyebrows or hood trim.

I like the dual headlights too, I think it makes the truck look wider when lowered. I have a 67 GMC and that's the reason I bought it was the look of the head lights....

Rock the "Jimmy" clip!
a. They look better, especially w/ chrome grilles.
b. They aren't as common, so the unique factor is much higher.
c. I also have a '67 GMC SWB and we need as many members in our exclusive "club" to thwart the "Bowtie Hoards".

Yeah.......GMC's are the $hit!

I think that would be your best bet, unless you want to hack your existing harness. For around a $150, I'd just get a new harness. I'm getting ready to replace mine, just to solve a few gremlins.

Off the record, where you at over there?
