Cleaned & rattle canned the 'new' 3spd column I got from board member JalopyToGo. Got it put in & hooked up but still struggling w/the linkage adjustment.

Anyone have tips on the easiest & most accurate way to adjust the linkage? I convinced myself it would be easy since I'd done my other truck years ago. My guess now is I got lucky years ago....

I'll get my chance this summer when it's 85F and no humidity and the rest of you are complaining obout the opressive heat and humidity.

I went through the whole ignition system on my Blazer to try and find the miss. Took the dizzy out and re-gapped the points, tested the vacuum advance, set the timing, cleaned and gapped the plugs, checked all the wires. Still got it - need to do a compression test next.

Replaced the thermostat in the neighbor's V6 Dakota.

Ran up the road and took a look at Davy's Blazer. It's in the middle of the tear-down phase.

Took the wife out to watch the Packer game at the local sports bar.

Welded up the old cargo light hole, cut required holes and installed newer 1994 and up Chevy cargo light with third brake light. Welded all drip rail seams and seams at windshield opening, top and bottom. Metal filed drip rails to remove all high spots, straighted wavy areas and mudded as necessary. Finished fabbing and installating sheet metal blanks for speakers on the inside of the cab corner areas.

Pulled the passenger door panel and stripped the old vinyl off it with a view to re-covering it. The vinyl was badly applied by a previous owner. Found the back of the panel was wet and rusty due to the holes in the door not being sealed with any plastic and crappy replacement window seals leaking. Panel is now stripped out, wire brushed, treated with rust killer and rattle can primed.

Today I found a local upholsterer to supply me with some new red vinyl to match the red bench upholstery and the new carpet thats going in soon. Going to give the panel a couple of coats of rattle can black gloss to hold back any future rust. Also will seal up any holes in the door with sheet plastic and duct tape before it goes back on.

Wire brushed and treated with rust convertor. The back of the panel didn't appear to have ever been painted. Good old manufacturers saving money! I guess they didn't expect it to still be around 36 years later.

And primed ready for some black. I was going to use some proper rust-proof paint like Hammerite but if I ever decide to go back to the painted stock panels like POR 15 it's almost impossible to remove. This way a coat or two of paint stripper and it'll all be off. I'll post some pics of the finished article when it's done. Vinyl arrives wednesday so hopefully by the end of the week. Then its time to repeat it with the drivers door!.

Well, I'm still working on my green/white 71 K20.

What I did this weekend:

New door handles/rubber
Tailgate trim panels
tail light housing/lens/trim
New dash bezel/cleaned gages/reset odometer to 0
finished up tilt column rebuild and installed
reinstalled AM-FM after clean up
cigarette lighter install
reinstall glove box lid
install starter
flex plate shield
horns
and etc etc etc.

Still so far to go....dropped stuff off at chrome shop today...

Got my stainless mufflers saturday. I can't wait to get this thing fired up again.

Ok, this post must be about a week old. Last week I installed a seat cover (see previous post) and this week I installed a new heater core, heater hoses and some cheap chrome for the engine. The engine really needed something (even if it was cheap) cuz it looked alot worse than it does now.

Stelth, I bought the heater hoses at a local parts store. They are made by Spectre, which also makes alot of other dress-up stuff. Kinda like Mr Gasket or Transdapt, affordable chrome and accessories. The heater hose (3/4 and 5/8) come pre-made and are sold in 4' lengths. They cost me $17 a piece and the anodized hose clamp fittings cost about $6 each. It's not the "real thing" but it doesn't have the "real thing" price tag either. At $58 for what you see (and I had about 1 1/2' of each size left over) I'm more than happy with it.

I just put my new coil spring in the front to lower it a bit more and started modification of my main crossmember, where the trailing arms tie to, so that I can pass the exhaust through it. Didn't get that finished, but I also put the bumpers back on my truck. I had previously taken them off and put a roll pan on the front, but got tired of it. Had to get front pieces off another frame and weld them back on the front for a place mount the bumpers. Yeah I felt kind of stupid for losing the originals.
