52 Rat, Very nice build. I would love to put a 6 speed in my panel when ever the TH350 dies.

Re: New guy with 52 AD project.

looking great. So when you put that front clip on, the center of the
wheel is going to be exactly where the OG wheel was? Thinking about going this route with my next one. I have seen alot of people going this route too, but no one seems to say how they lined up the front. I would assume make some markings on the floor using a plum bob correct? Also keeping the frame level and in the same place.

Yes, the IFS has the center line in the same place as the OE axle. I went with the Heidts IFS and the instructions are very detailed. No worries of not getting the sub-frame square.

cool thanks, yeah that is what I kinda figured. I would like to see their instructions. Would be interesting. At any rate, I am liking the build. I would suggest no chop and leaving the patina!!!

I’ve decided to forgo the chop since I have another project I want to get started on. I acquired a 37 GMC a few weeks ago. I hope to have pics. soon. As for the patina on the 52; it has several brush painted coats of paint from the years past. From what I can tell, it has four different colors and they were all brush painted at different times through the years.

I attached a link directing you to the Heidts IFS instructions for the AD trucks. It is pretty straight forward.

Re: New guy with 52 AD project.

thanks for the link, seems easy enough.

I love the brushed on paint and especially 4 layers of it. Anyway send some pics of your new project soon and keep up the good work.

I can do that but I will have two green doors. I'm not sure what to do with the doors.

Re: New guy with 52 AD project.

Here are a few pics of the 37 GMC I acquired. This was a true barn find. My friend purchased the truck earlier in the summer. He decided to not start the project so I told him I would like to have the truck and get it in the dry. Now I have this truck. It will be in my brothers barn until I finish the 52. I will start a 37 GMC build thread soon.

Does the Heidts kit include a 1 1/2" rack extender or is it extra?

Let me clarify, the steering rack mounts/spacers were pre welded on the IFS cross-member. You can see the mounts/spacer in a photo on the first page of this thread.

O K, but was the rack extender installed on the end of the rack, or in a parts kit?

Re: New guy with 52 AD project.

O K, the reck extender i'm talking about is on the end of the rack UNGER the rubber boot. If you were able to adjust the tie rod ends to fit the spindles it must have been included with the rack and installed by the vendor.

Not sure about that. It is my understanding the rack is a standard Ford power rack. I had not problems with the tie rod ends or adjustments. You may want to check with Heidts regarding this.

I thought I would update my build thread with a few pics. I hope to have the cab complete by year end. I will be starting the four link, boxing the frame, and plumbing next.

Yes, I will be using an air bag set up. I'm not sure what style or brand. I like the Shockwave's but that is down the road a ways. I will need to C notch the rear frame to get the air down drop I'm looking to achieve.
