Re: 71 Cheyenne Build
While I had the door off I repaired a rust spot on the lower corner, found the door hinge bushing was wore out and replaced it.

Re: 71 Cheyenne Build
I received the Inner Fenders and Core Support back from sandblasting....Inner fenders were rusted thru in a couple of areas so I elected to purchase new ones. Core support looks nice I will get some paint on it and install it when I get my inner fenders..

Re: 71 Cheyenne Build
Working on the Bench Seat. I pulled the old fabric and foam off, found one bad spring, drivers side end spring, Foam was good but I already have new seat foam so I'll change it out. I couldn't find an end spring for a 71 anywhere, I happened to be throwing away a box spring and harvested some springs from that, spent a little time bending one, looks like it will work. I'm recovering seat with a saddle vinyl cover, I'll post some more pics when I get it done.

Re: 71 Cheyenne Build
I just found this thread.
Great looking truck. I saw this pic and I had to ask,... Did you leave your tie rods assembled this way? The inner tie rods should bolt thru the centerlink from the back side. The inner tie rod nuts will be on the front side of the centerlink. This is a very common mistake. You have you centerlink swapped end-for-end. I've seen some lowered trucks actually bend the outer tie rod on the pitman arm.

Re: 71 Cheyenne Build
Ha Ha, No I figured it out, I wished I had taken better before pictures. I pondered quite a while about how it went back together...Then finally put it together wrong. It was a easy fix once I figured it out.
Good eye in catching that!

Re: 71 Cheyenne Build
Fuel Tank relocation: I originally wanted to keep the original tank and location, after removing the interior I found that the tank had leaked sometime ago, someone had patched it and it no longer leaked. The patch appeared to be starting to let loose. I looked into the cost of a new tank or relocating the tank.
I decided I would relocate the tank and be able to utilize the extra room in the cab.

Re: 71 Cheyenne Build
I purchased a tank from Classic Industries they had a tank relocate kit, I wasn't impressed with the package. Lack of instructions on how or were to mount the tank. The straps did not seem to fit anywhere. I modified the brackets and bolted it up to the frame, ran new lines, and it works fine. Tank is ok and came with a sending unit. Looking back at this I would have bought a higher quality tank or fuel cell. To retain the stock look I will install the old filler neck back in the original hole. The new filler location will probably be inside the box in the corner.

Re: 71 Cheyenne Build
Bumper: Installed a new bumper with brackets I am hoping to fabricate a receiver frame hitch that is hidden behind the license plate. Some pics of the old bumper and the new one. I really wanted to keep the original bumper but with estimates of well $1000. to straighten and re chrome it will have to wait.

Nice progress! Man, I'm having a hard time not hating you guys out west with "rust issues", lol. Inner fenders as nice as your OE's would be like hitting a small lottery here!

Re: 71 Cheyenne Build
That fuel tank is a Blazer tank. If you want pictures on how the straps run just let me know.
ECE makes a hitch that goes behind that bumper. I am going to order one for my Blazer. http://www.earlyclassic.com/catalog....ategory=Hidden Receiver Hitches

Re: 71 Cheyenne Build
New Inner fenders arrived today and look good. Might be posting the old ones for sale along with other useable but not mint parts when my project comes to a close this year. It will never be done! if it was... I would have to sell it and start another one. Hoping to have it together by Mid April, I'm getting the itch to drive it with the nice weather we've had. Paint will have to wait till next winter.
