Re: 71 Cheyenne Build

Valve Guide on #2 Cylinder is bad, so I opted for a Crate Engine, that way I can build the original 350 over time, I bought a Summit Racing 290HP engine.

Took the Box off for some cab corner work, while off I cleaned up the frame rails and painted with POR15.

Re: 71 Cheyenne Build

From first glance it appeared I had very little rust to repair, was I mistaken under the rocker panel was rusted, bottom of the door pillars were as well, looks like I will replace the Outer Floor Panel that includes the Inner Rocker Panel, Door Pillars, and Cab Corner, might have to repair one Floor Support or maybe replace it. It appears I have water coming inside the cab running down the kick panel and sitting on the floor were the kick panel, front of the door and the floor meet, Any Ideas Where it is coming from (both sides)? I'll have to pull the cowl to see were the water is coming in.
This will be my first rust repair, I was a little Nervous about cutting "Her" Apart.

Waiting on Parts....
I'll never get my parts shipped, I keep calling them back adding to the order, lol! First order was the beginning of December three additions to the order plus Christmas and New Years, along with back orders!
Next time around I'll plan it better and have more patients.

Re: 71 Cheyenne Build

Front Suspension, I decided to replace front suspension components while waiting for my body parts. I decided to go with 2" lowering springs, we replaced upper and lower: Control Arm Shafts and Seals, Ball Joints, inner and outer Tie Rod Ends and Adjusters, Pitman Arm and Idler Arm. we removed, sandblasted and painted upper and lower Control Arms,This was a much bigger under taking than I thought, Thankfully a friend gave me a hand! we spent almost 13 hours to complete this task.

Hack you bought that truck a couple blocks from my house! I even saw you looking at it I believe you were driving a newer Chevy pickup with North Dakota plates on it.

Smile Re: 71 Cheyenne Build

I haven't done a lot of research yet. What I do know is that it came to the Midwest from Portland. The dealer sticker on the tailgate states "Johnson" located in Gunnison Utah, Did a brief google search but did not find a dealer with that name. The bumper is a SAFE-TEE Bumper, American Bumper Sales Co. Portland, Los Angeles. I will probably do a vin search eventually to determine previous history. If anyone recognizes this truck let me know thats always interesting, picture with a topper was on the truck before I got it.

Re: 71 Cheyenne Build

Parts have arrived!! I got impatient with Brothers Trucks and canceled back ordered parts, Ordered back ordered parts from Classic Industries. In the mean time I ordered a Cruise Control kit from Summit Racing thinking it would give me something to do till the parts got here! Well..... They all showed up on the same day! Time to get to work.

Re: 71 Cheyenne Build

Time to remove the front end of the truck, hoping to see what caused the water leaking into the cab causing the rust to start on the floor.

Re: 71 Cheyenne Build

Looks like the Cowl is good along with everything else. At the base of the windshield on each side is a seam with sealer that has lifted, I removed the seam sealer and there's no thru rust it just needs cleaning, resealing and painting, I had expected something worse. Done for today, doors still need to come off then I can start on the floor repair, rocker and cab corner.
