New guy new project

Well it doesn't look like it now but a few days ago it was almost 60 degrees so I sand blasted the rear frame section and painted it mastercoat silver than the black tractor coat. We got all the braces in under the floor and tipped the cab down on the newly painted frame and it will now fit in my garage! Also painted the lower section of firewall, easier to do with the cab tipped up. Color is flat steel blue from TCP global.

Had the garage nice and warm so I got ahead of myself a bit and painted the interior of the cab and dash. I still have a few pieces to weld in the floor and hope to get the inside wrapped up this week if some of my new bits arrive.

I took advantage of the unseasonal temps to get the garage warm enough to paint and with some quality evening work time I painted the upper part of the cab. Single stage urethane alpine white.

After a short break to paint my sons 325i project I'm finally back on the 63. Sand blasted the grill and bumper and painted them as well as the side mirror. I have the white on the front fenders as well so fenders and the grill shell are ready for the blue next. I just ordered the rest of my engine parts so that end of the project should be finishing up soon.

thats a nice color scheme. exactly what i was thinking of doing. fawn interior/white top/flat bue. great progress.

Painted the blue and black on the grill shell yesterday and shot the inside of both fenders and the upper fender / cowl pieces. I 'm finding the flat paint is difficult to get consistent, in the end when its all together I think i'll end up giving it one final coat to get the sheen even.

From info found on this site I used a Krylon rattlecan champagne neuvois metallic found at many Walmarts. It's not exactly like the fawn met but very close. Close enough for this guy.

Doors are now painted and just got a big box of weatherstripping parts from classic so I hope to get the doors on over the weekend. I stopped by the machine shop today and my block is all cleaned ready to be bored next week.

Starting to look like a truck!

Finally spending some time rebuilding the 283 that was in the truck when I bought it. I had the block cleaned and bored 30 over and the crank turned and polished. The engine was a 1957 power pak motor that had a bunch of work done to it but still very usable. I scored a set of early 60's power pak heads completely rebuilt so the unit should be good for many years to come. I tried to keep the vintage look of the old motor while not exactly stock. The castings on these old sbc and very rough which gives it a interesting finish.

I moved the truck down to a friends shop to start the assembly process. This shop is on a farm I worked on as a kid and has enough room for several vehicles as well as an overhead hoist. Engine is in (second times a charm) after some confusion with the throw out bearing.

All early ones were press fit iirc, I had a nasty 283 in my 57 for a while, and we had to tap the crank snout for a bolt, it would work off at extremely high RPM's. Great engine for sure!

Some how I missed this post and just noticed it upon reviewing the thread. Sorry about that. Yes it has a pressed on balancer but while the engine was out we drilled and tapped the end of the crank and put a harmonic balancer bolt in from an 80's parts truck. I was worried about the same thing happening.
