You have a 1/2 ton with 15" wheels and the optional full wheel covers which had blue bowties in 69-72.In 73 & 74 the bowtie was yellow. The dog-dish hubcaps in this thread ran the same years with thesame color bowties. We are discussing the larger version that came on 8-lug trucks. These particular ones don`t dome out from the wheel in the center as much as most. It`s unusual.I say call Robert Stack.

Re: Lets talk hub caps...3/4 ton and one ton

I thought it was already answered... optional hub cap on early 69, for the spare on a step side.

Andy,I wasn`t sure if you accepted that as the answer.I expected a quicker reaction to my answer so I could tell you I just pulled that one outta my...ACHOO!!Sorry,it`s still a mystery to me,especially since there weren`t many used,I`ve never seen one.I doubt GM stamped a special cap for that application.Sorry, just jokin`around.Oh BTW,I`m buying a`69 C/20 Stepside from the guy that posted about the accessory book and I might have pulled him in on this by a pm.A little late for April fools, huh? It must mean we like you(in a truck guy kinda way,of course).

Re: Lets talk hub caps...3/4 ton and one ton

Longhorn Man-My recently purchased 1972 C30 Cheyenne Super came with 3 yellow and 1 blue bowtie hubcaps, on 16.5 rims. Are the 16 and 16.5 hubcaps interchangeable? I read somewhere that the 3/4 and 1 ton caps measure 12" and the 1/2 to measure 10.5". In your opinion is this correct? I am going to try to find me a matching set of 4; just trying to decide which way to go.Thanks for your input. Ron

Re: Lets talk hub caps...3/4 ton and one ton

The hubcaps will work on both 16" and 16.5" rims. I have 16's in the front on my truck and wide 16.5's on the back and they'll fit on either wheel. I had a couple pictures of the hubcaps on the wheels but they're all messed up, I'll take some other ones later.

The hub cap on the left is off a '69 GMC 2500, the right off a '73 GMC 2500. The '69 has a painted convex center, the right has an unpainted concave center. Both are much taller than the Chevy hub cap at the start of this thread.

Re: Lets talk hub caps...3/4 ton and one ton

kschevyup... Robert is pointing you int eh right direction ont eh hubcaps. They will fit both 16 and 16.5 rims, however, you have to look at the rim, becouse they won't work on all 16 inch rims, not even all chevy 16 inch rims. The silver wheels on the 88 - 98 truck will not accept the hub caps, I'm not even sure if there were steel wheels offered after that, but if so, odds are they won't work.
As for your hubcaps,t eh one single blue bow tie is the correct one, the yellow ones are from later trucks, in the 73 - 87 run.

Bob, if I am not mistaken, the black center hubcap is a one year ordeal. I'm thinking in 70 they went to a bright center like the one on the right. The convex/concave deal... I can't see why the chevy would have convex and the GMC concave, the 73 one you have was probably popped in.

Re: Lets talk hub caps...3/4 ton and one ton

You shouldn't have any problems using those caps on 16" wheels. I have used 'em on both F0rd and GM 8 lug steel wheels and they fit fine. A guy here in town has a '75 Chevy crewcab 1 ton single wheel that came with 8.75-16.5 bias ply tires from the factory on 16.5 x 6.75 wheels. Since there aren't a lot of choices for that tire size he put 16 x 6 wheels on it from an early 80's GMC and the hubcaps fit right on the wheels. They are just like the '69-'72 hubcaps except they're concave and have a yellow center.

Re: Lets talk hub caps...3/4 ton and one ton

All OEM steel 8-lug wheels that have outer "nubs" will accept these caps. You can put Ford on Dodge,Dodge on Chevy,or Ford,Dodge,Chevy, and GMC on each wheel. Now wouldn`t that look sweet? The Chevy and GMC caps from 70-75 have been concave and the`69s were convex with GMCs having the black center. You can find alot more yellers than blue.Just paint the bowtie blue, like other parts, the pn is the same from the first yesr made.In other words, they will still be correct.

Re: Lets talk hub caps...3/4 ton and one ton

Tim, I'll have to argue on the concave 70 - 72... I've only seen a few yellow bow tie ones, and they were convex also, but, we are only talking about maybe 5 trucks. (I tend to ignore the 73 - 87) ON the 70 - 73, if you pop the center in on the hubcap, then they won't even fit on the rear.

Re: Lets talk hub caps...3/4 ton and one ton

Here's some 1970 Custom Camper hubcaps on my truck. All four have blue bowties and are convex. Like Longhornman said, if they were concave they wouldn't fit on the back. I have one from a 73-74 that's concave and it wouldn't fit because of the big Eaton axle hub sticking out. Anyway the fronts are 235/85 on 16x6" GM wheels, and rears are 33/12.50 on 16.5x9.75" wheels.
