Question Re: How does the steering wheel horn button mount?

Make sure the spring is long enough. As I stated before I had to strecth mine for it to work good.
Do you see it sparking when you put it together?

It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Not sure if this is your problem, but it looks like you have painted the inside portion of your column, and it may not be getting a path to ground when depressed. My column is bare metal underneath the plate that you have shown.

I went and snaped some pictures of mine for you.

71Sixer, he makes a good point! Didn't even think about that.

Thanks for the pictures, and thanks for the ideas guys. I guess the paint could he an issue. Not sure. I do see sparks when I touch the nipple or the nut (lol, that sounds wrong) with something metal.

I did notice on the brothers site, that while they do sell 67/68 steering wheels, they don't sell the horn contact button parts. I called them, and they confirmed that they don't sell them, and that they are different from 69-72 steering wheels. So, I guess I need to find a used one somewhere?

Re: How does the steering wheel horn button mount?

I had troubles getting my 67 back together the right way when I replaced my turn signal switch. Difference is I am in the middle of nowhere lol. Just kept flipping things around until it worked correctly. I like the idea of unplugging the horn. Still lets you hear the relay click. GL with the neighbors.

Like mentioned, the paint is probably your problem. It has to be bare metal below the disk. Also you have to be very careful that the metal disk is not pinched under the plastic standoff. In your bottom picture, if you look at the center hole it looks like the disk is not centered under the metal cup.

I'll strip the paint down inside the cavity, and make sure the disc is centered. Thanks. What about the possibility that the part is different for 67/68 vs 69-72? The parts places like brothers and LMC don't even carry the horn mount parts for 67/68

Re: How does the steering wheel horn button mount?

I was lookin at "truckshops"orange,ca catalog and it says that the horn cap retainer kit fits 69-72. Doesnt even show for 67-68. I hope I have all the pieces for my 67. I still am in need of a horn itself. Hope it all works out for ya.

Yeah, that's what's got me confused. I went ahead and bought an original 67 horn mount off eBay tonight, so we'll see how it works when it comes in

This is out of the parts catalog. Did you try looking in the 68 manuals?
