what about finding a donut style, maybe from a newer truck?? Should fit the bracket, be lighter and you only use it in emergency anyways.

If you're lucky you might locate a stepside with the factory side mounted spare! It's one of those things you either love or hate. Personally I like it.

Has anyone tried to modify a late model Blazer spare tire bracket to fit up in the front of the bed of a pickup? I want to do this and make it so I can mount my 36" spare to it. Otherwise theres that big tire and rim sitting the back taking up room, don't care if it sticks out over the top of the box just as long as it's out of the way.

What spare? I've got a spare? Hmmm, I'll have to look for that, it might come in handy.
Wait a minute... spare what? I've got spare head bolts, power steering box, distributor, headlights, bezels, and some spare brake pads. They're on a shelf in the garage. HG

Couldn't tell from your avitar, but assuming you are still six-lug, you can use a do-nut from a Mazda truck. That's what used until I converted to five-lug. I made a frame brace for it to bolt to, and tucked it up under the bed between the frame rails. You couldn't even see it from behind because it's so skinny. I even had to use it once- looked funny but could do a heck of a burnout.

i have mine laying in the bed, brand spanking new bias ply on a split rim...if anyone is desperate enough to steal it, I won't be too torn up about it. funny thing is, i don't have a jack or a lug wrench...sot its useless. i do, however, have a cell and AAA.

Mines a small spare from a Toyota truck. I have a Valley trailor hitch, and I've mounted it on a bracket I made. It tucks nicely inside the hitch. The tire isn't visible from behind the truck.

Spare tire carrier
Well, Im still not up and running, but getting closer. My LWB had two of the bed mount tire carriers in it when I got it. I have held on to them, but the idea of the tire carrier from the burb, cut into the floor so that it rides beneath the top of the bed sounds real neat. I am going to look at that.

Spareless in Seattle.
Chances are if I relied on cell-phone and AAA I wouldn't have a signal, and when I got back from a payphone the truck would be messed with. Better get a spare. What do you guys do for a jack if you don't have the stock one?

Does anyone have a picture of the Burb setup that Huck was referring to. I talking about the spare tire bucket in the burb. Then, does anyone have a parts Burb that might have one in decent shape that they are willing to cut out? What year Burbs have this?

cell phone cell phone cell phone,
Are all you guys city slickers??? I rely on my cell around town as part of my Job but if I go more than 10 miles out into the mountains I'm all on my own. Those old boys at GM had a great Idea. A spare and a Jack, spare mounted under the bed what a novel concept.... On the other hand you might meet a good looking tow truck driver if you're into that sort of thng....HA HA
