That's always been my favorite paint on 67-68. All these trucks are so nice.

Wish I could help you on the engine. I believe mine received a 325hp 396 transplant after an accident. I do believe mine was an original 396/400 truck though. The 400 is original to the truck.

Do you know if yours might have been a 2 barrel engine??? I've never seen the low compression engine on a glove box decal list....

My engine is the original engine (just rebuilt and punched to 402), so it is true to being the L47 4 barrel 396 indicated on the placard but I've never been able to verify or find out what that L92 low comp designation is on the RPO placard.

There is a L66 designation for a 396 CID 2-bbl V8, though so there may have been that option available on the '68 model year.

Ditto! I love this color and the mint green! Lot of these colors are making a huge comeback. Chevy was way ahead of their time with so many cool colors!

It seems those head castings are 68-76 427T oval open chamber heads. I think 427T is a tall deck engine which never came in a 68 Chevy C10?

Maybe I am missing some info. I appreciate you posting it!

I am not sure what those casting numbers mean on the block. Too bad you didnt have some casting numbers for the cylinder head. Maybe whenever you next take off a valve cover you can take a look. Thanks for posting!

I also thought all the 68 396 engines got closed chamber heads? So this is interesting.

Hey I got to thinking more about this. As I stated earlier. Some of the websites list casting number 3935401 as for BBC 68-76 427T.

But I dont think any 427 engines were built in 1976 at all. So I dont think those websites are correct.

Re: Anybody have factory 1968 396 truck engine that will share some casting numbers?

We found this one at a wrecking yard that was getting crushed out. I talked my buddy into saving it but he just needs it gone. Such a shame becasue its such a badass truck that is rusted beyond salvation. But it's never been messed with other than someone taking the tach cluster out the night before we got it out of there.
If anyone is interested before he tears it apart he just wants his 2k back out of it. Its near portland, or

Man that 68 Golden looks rough. It would be hard to find a buyer at $2000.00, harder on short notice. It's all there!!!

Tall deck 427 engines were made in 1976.

Heck yeah, love vintage 70s+&-.

Everyone in my life said NO OCHRE, 30 Years. Until I met the guy who painted it and his wife. He shot it w clear. Now those left of us had a change of opinion. I've seen it on a Harley or two, very clean.

I would buy this if it were alot closer to me. Is there any way you can get some information off the engine before the truck disappears?

Carb style and number
Intake casting number
Cylinder head casting number

Somebody needs to save this truck. A truck optioned like this one and being all together deserves to be restored. Rust can be a an obstacle but with every panel being made and whole cabs, it's not as big a task as some would think. If someone is interested doing a resto on this truck but lacked confidence or skills, there tutorials all over the internet, starting with this forum.
This rig has lots of potential with the options it has and given the asking price, it's a deal. In fact, if it were around my area it would have already found a new home.
