You guys think that is soda blasted then cleared? It doesn't look like it was grinder or wire wheeled.

Over the last few days I've been taking apart the inside of the cab. pulled the motor and trans today. got the body off and rolled her outside to start sandblasting the frame.

As for the name I was thinking Wilson. When I saw this photo I thought "it's a sign!" kind of stupid but funny.

Re: Low buck 53' 3100 5 window
Hey Sim6
Good luck with the frame swap deal...I have gotten 2 of those (S10 frame swaps) 1/2 done and just couldn't wrap my head around all the loose ends...I am trying a different avenue with my current project and trying to keep it as much vintage Chevy truck as I can...hoping to have less stress in the end... Your frame swap will give you all the bells and whistles without all the hassles...NAPA sells all the pieces and parts for it too... looks great from here... Good luck and keep posting as you go along... MikeC |

Re: Low buck 53' 3100 5 window
After a lot of debating I picked up an S10 today. I'm on a tight budget and I have more time than money so I'm ditching the old frame. The drop axle from Sid was going to over $700 with all the bells and whistles. Plus I needed a new rear end, driveshaft and seat. I can part out the rest of the s10 and make a little cash to fill the tank when I'm ready.

Re: Low buck 53' 3100 5 window
So I went and picked up my S10. Got to look it over and I think I got a great deal for $500.
Did a little sand blasting on the interior/door jams. |

Re: Low buck 53' 3100 5 window
nice progress and truck. you are going to be surprised on how much you'll have into that s10 frame when you are done! time and money. Unless you just keep alot of whats already there, but odds are you'll want all new balljoints, bushings, tierods, drop spindles. etc etc. I'm wrapping up my 2nd s10 frame build. Yes keeping original lowered suspension vs say an s10 or a bagged original seems a bit pricey I know. been there done that with a build and decided not to do drop axle and all that quite yet (but she will have a 235 with 5 speed!) options are endless, good luck and you won't find a better place for using building these trucks.

Re: Low buck 53' 3100 5 window
Spent the last couple of days parting out the s10. Those parts sell like crazy here in Arkansas. I made back all the money I paid for it. Got the frame cleaned up little this evening. Tomorrow I will start patching the cab.

Re: Low buck 53' 3100 5 window
nice, glad to see those parts going to a new home. My first vehicle (still have sitting) was an 89' s10. I feel those body styles will come back in style again, kind already happening with the c10's. Let the fun begin.

I had one of those I did last year...the stuff is so rotten around here I had to literally cut every thing up and haul it to our recycling place where I work....we use lots of salt up here in my neck...could not even give away the grill or the tail lights...everything that age around is long gone....Iwas blessed just find somthing that ran and rolled.. Good luck with your build... MikeC |

Re: Low buck 53' 3100 5 window
Mike,
I know that must be frustrating for you northern guys. Here we are far enough south that most are not to rusty but we do get a lot of Kansas City auction vehicles which are junk. Thankfully I got lucky and it was pretty solid. I got to meet a couple gear heads and some other interesting people during the process. I appreciate you dropping in. Thanks Jeff |

So.....if a tailgate will bolt up it's worth at least $14 right? I kinda just want to hang it on the wall. I like it!

I was wondering the same. Couldn't come up with anything that wouldn't be embarrassing to say out loud.
